Planing to be in Cairns on Thursday 23rd maybe the 22nd depending on who drives up and which way we go I have some ideas on that.
Took us 3 and a bit days from Melbourne last time with the Kids.
From Cairns
Day 1: 25thJune. Cairns to Lions Den via coast Rd. Or Via the Creb Track . I have done the Creb Track and it is a fun Challenging track just have to see if it’s open .
The coast road is also a very nice drive and takes you thru the Daintree NP on the way to Cooktown .
Day 2: 26thJune. Lions Den Hotel http://lionsdenhotel.com.au/
Spend the day exploring Cooktown, the history and museum.
Day 3: 27thJune. Lions Den via Battlecamp Rd to Archer River or The Bend just Nth of Coen stayed there last time.
Leave Cooktown and head via the Battle Camp rd. Travel to Laura and head up the main rd to Musgrave.
Option. Some may wish to travel via Lakefield National Park and then join up at Musgrave.
Day 4: 28thJune. Archer River Roadhouse to Dulhunty River
We head along the Development Rd to Bramwell Junction. Stop for fuel / lunch and then the adventure begins as we tackle the southern part of the OTL stopping at Dulhunty River.

Day 5: 29thJune. Dulhunty to Twin Falls.
Leave Dulhunty cross Bertie Creek and head towards Gunshot Creek. After the fun of conquering Gunshot we head towards Cockatoo Creek .
Day 6: 30thJune.Twin Falls
This would have to be the best place at the Cape. There are a number of swimming areas which are croc free.
Day 7: 1stJuly. Twin Falls to Loyalty Beach?
We tackle the northern part of the OTL including Nolan’s or if you like Take the bypass . Can you meet us on the other side then to be tow vehicle!!!!
Day 8-9-10: 2ndJuly-4thJuly
Enjoy the Cape. Have done the trip to Thursday island small tour fishing on the way over , lunch , Horn Island , and was worth it.
Plenty of time to enjoy the Cape.
Go and see the Plane wrecks.
Travel out for the picture at the Tip.
Day 11: 5thJuly Loyalty Beach - Captains Billy Landing Via Fruit Bat falls for a swim.
Day 12: 6thJuly Captains Bilys Landing to Chilli Beach .
Via Frenchmams or Portland Roads depending weather ( Talk about it )
Day 13: 7thJuly
Day 14: 8thJuly Day Off Chilli Beach depending on the wind
Day 15: 9thJuly
Day 16: 10thJuly Be back in Cairns to fly family Members back home for school Maybe?
Options Stay another day at the Cape or go out to Vrilya Point in the Gulf
Some people may wish to leave the group which is fine and can do so or join up.
People may wish to go to Weipa and maybe do the mine tour, fish.
Plan to do all the tele track again as well as Nolans depending on conditions.
Bit of a rough plan, we could go out to Lakeland and come back via Cooktown on the way back that's how I did it last time.
It may look a little rushed but some of us just have to get home or get the kids back to school.
Anyone wishing to stay longer anywhere and only do the challenging parts with the group cool.
minimum vehicle requirements or recovery equipment?
Ok what should people have this might open a can of worms.
Winch! only put one on if you were going to put one on don't do it just for this trip. Will be enough people that have them.
Lockers! Only if you had planed to put lockers in. 150 Traction control works well
Suspension! It would help but you certainly could do it with standard suspension you may just scrap a little more.
Side steps! If your car isn't raised you may touch your side steps so be prepared for some bends maybe.
Front rear Recovery Points.
Diff Breathers Water in the diffs no good.
Transmission Breather.
Snorkel! Many cars go up there without but would be a better idea to have one. Have a good blind which i will be bringing again.
Tyres! Set of LT, don't have to be mud terrains .
Your own recovery gear !
First aid kit , fire extinguisher,
Spare Parts. I have Belt , radiator hoses for 120 d4d. Sunny and Pete cv Joints .
Pete has a starter motor.
More info to come.
