I know my 150 gets all shouty if the key isn't in it while its running... I would have thought it would be smart enough to shut down if it realised the key wasnt actually there

hehe. I was waiting for you to chime in on this Ranj. After the last thread on remote start I had some feeling this is what you were doing to some extent. then the car s that didn't work you would sacrifice the spare key.

And this was my only concern about a shutdown.

I have warmed up my car in the garage and went back inside the house to get something with the keys in my pocket and the car was still running. Its beep while I was getting out the car but the beep stopped once I was in the house... wife told me.

I have yet to test weather or not the car turns off once in drive and more then 20mt away.

Lol we don't use the range extenders for remote starts, we have other means around that. The range extender is used for factory upgrade alarms when the customer wants longer distance on their remotes which is very rare.

Oem systems will NOT shutdown for the simple reason of what I mentioned earlier about driving off.

My dearly departed grandfather who lived in South Africa had an anti-hijack alarm on his car. After activation it would completely shut off all electrical systems in the car after 5 minutes. The theory being they were far enough away to not cause you an issue when the car died but the car could be recovered. He accidentally activated it quite regularly, twas quite amusing. Though I'd hate to have seen it happen on the free way.

I did try to get him to go for the flame thrower anti-hijack device, but he thought that was a bit unsporting.

Forget the fridge or microwave where the key fob can be accidentally damaged. I just tried putting it in a pot with metal lid (missus looked at me weirdly while I was rummaging in the kitchen) and it worked. Went up to the car and it won't unlock.

Lots of metal container at cheap as chips that should do the job. The other issue is protecting the key fob when parked at shopping centres, etc. Lots of RF shielding bags on eBay.

What sort of range do the amplifiers give? I would that thought that it wasn't huge - perhaps 50m-100m - and was fairly directional. Are you in much danger if you're inside a shopping centre? My experience with RF (automotive dataloggers) was that it wouldn't penetrate much even when you wanted it to!

Maybe not in major shopping centres but it could be opportunistic crime if they open the door while you're walking away from the car.

Local shopping centre would be an issue where the carpark to the shop is pretty close and is mainly glass walls.

I fly FPV planes and helis and I can source from china 600mW TX gear (can fly up to 12km away) with no issues, even when they are illegal here in OZ and bring them in with no issues. I haven't looked into single amps, but it can be done very easily coming from china.
