Thanks again, this could be of great use to me.
Yep new Toyota long motor with Injectors in the 9k range. Add fitting, shouldn't be more than a couple grand.
Then you have a new heart in the beast & good to roll on......
Much cheaper than a new car!

P.S> Just read you were keeping numbers of holed pistons in another thread.

      Mine:
      04/2011 150 VX
      128K
      Excellent Service history (all Toyota)
No.3 piston has a hole in it
Mostly use Caltex. My tank was 1/4 full when it went pop going up a hill. Lost power, then lost more power and started vibrating and then blew smoke.
I don't have the injector values, but they said they were way out of tolerance
No Chip (I do have a snorkel though).

What are we up to now in terms of numbers?

          Hey,

I'm not really counting, but just after confirming theory, doing some r&d.
Also looking at what other contributors may play a part.
If Toyo know more than me, they certainly don't share, once I know something I share
Some will argue, but theory confirmed by research & practical rules over pain theory.

The 150's are really starting to pop pistons, more than 120's.
Usually towing or done a lot of towing.
Even at low Klm's with catch cans & fuel filters.
From all I can find the one that pop are well out of spec.

We're you checking your feedback values?
Or was it Toyota? It will be ok? Or it's ok?

Toyo checked the injector tolerances & said they were way out... Then the compression test... Then the head off inspection.

They have apparently sent off to Toyo a 'comparison report', which I think outlines the different options, and seeks advice on how to proceed and what assistance may be provided.

They have decided to assist with providing a new short block and injectors. The rest is mine. Not the best, but not the worst. Just want my car back now.

                      Time will tell.
2014 still pretty noisy engine, but there may have been changes in pistons & injectors. We will see.

Hi all, thought I'd share the situation I'm currently in during a planned trip up the Cape. But first, some back ground info. I have a 120 D4d 06 model. Bought it second hand in 2010 with 85,000 on the clock. Suffered the dreaded rattle and had all injectors changed in 2011. Had a second fuel filter installed by Berrima Diesel a while back and 5 weeks ago, put the car into Toyota for that Injector seat recall. Now, the rig has run faultlessly until yesterday afternoon, whilst ascending probably the steepest hill on the Bloomfield track (between Cape Trib and Cooktown), with about 150mtrs to the top, I began to lose power, revs and it stalled. Not a great situation to be in, being stuck on a pretty serious incline and reversing wasn't an option with our new Patriot Camper in tow. Luckily I managed to turn it over, and with low range, managed to find the grunt to climb the hill and coast down the other side, where we came to rest until rescued by RACQ some 3 hours later- 15kms south of Wujal Wujal. Just waiting to hear back to see if I've done any further damage. Fingers crossed!

                        Regards
                        Michael

Luckily there's no further damage. Compression test came back good. We're still in Cooktown awaiting repairs though, so very keen to get moving again.
