I'd suggest a full diagnostic from cold to full operating temp.
It would be helpfull if you can find out which one was the high reading from old injectors.
P.m me if you would lie to give me a call.

You have to insist on it, as there are dealers out there that say there is no need to do cold checks. And save your money they say,,don't change your injectors out at 120k, but pay $165 for an injector service. Yeah right!
Do you reckon they just want to sell more engines or what??

Pretty crook when the dealers are giving such poor advice.

Lots of dealers giving out lots of misinformation.
          Like:
Changing out 1 or 2 injectors is ok - WRONG
Re-using the pipes is fine - WRONG
feedback values 3-5 is ok - WRONG
injection volume of 14 s ok - WRONG
no need to check oil pickups - WRONG although this is changing once all the copper seats are out. But still worth a look 10 seconds to look.
Your Injectors are ok - WRONG often.
We use genuine Toyota engine oil so it's all ok - WRONG
All those stories on FORUMS are fiction, people just make it up - WRONG
Blown piston, no warranty, Take it up the road & burn it, do insurance claim - IDIOT!

I've heard it all & people tell me what dealers tell them all the time, just silly.
They all need to go & get educated on this.

The cold check is what really tells you where the Injector wear is at.
If they are totally shagged, you don't need to do it cold.
Most people would like to know, before they're totally snagged.
Save your money, tell them ill save my money on a service, SEE YA!

          $165 injector service, HAHAHA!
Rubbish, rip off! Nothing you can do!
          That's the easy money!

I don't think they are trying to sell more engines,
          But here are my thoughts,
They want to protect the brand
They hate doing them, because they often have problems, it does their heads in, that's why many sublet to diesel experts.
They don't see a huge percentage with holed pistons, so they think its not a big problem,
but who wants to be popped this week?

Not naming & shaming, Sure not all dealers are hopeless, & non everyone in them,
Just let everybody know the good ones, I will as soon as I find or hear about 1.

I have a 2013 Update with 23000km on the clock. I have installed a Racor 10 micron filter and always use BP diesel.

I just had my 18 month service and asked service when do they check the injectors -'we don't" This did not please me.

When should I get them checked? At what mileage should I insist on a check?

Firstly you can get lucky, most do.
But some are not so lucky, as simple as a service preventing your brakes from going metal to metal, it can prevent a holed piston in most cases.

I'd like to say start checking at 40k or 80k, but some fail withing that time, not many but some.
It's not hard for them to do, just say make it part of my service, every service or go elsewhere.

              So now!

That being said, you have really good odds it will be good for a long time yet.

                Thanks for your reply #############

Does it always have to be a cold check at my low mileage to get an idea how the injectors are wearing? If I make it part of my service it would be delivered at say 8am after a 10km drive and the service starting soon after checking the injector readings and volume then. Would these values be very misleading as the engine is not cold?
If the values are not great then bringing it in for a cold check on another day workable to get a more accurate reading? Or is it a cold check or nothing?

When I had my check done I was asked to drop the car off the evening before so that it was a real cold start.

Wow, I think I was asleep at the wheel. Sorry.
Cold is the way to do an accurate diagnostic, however if they are really bad it usually shows up hot.

Anyone changing injectors, getting them done? Now there is an easy way to do a compression test while its open.
You should do this as compressions can change feedback values.

Special tool available now, have a sniff, If anyone wants to do the injector job more like the experts do, have a read & get yourself one or a set of these.
I use a set of 4, saves time.

ok question for you guys, maybe you can help.

2012 GX done 53k always had toyo service (whilst its cheap), had a pre fuel filter fitted, snorkel and a 3 inch exhaust (to keep temps down). dont tow very much at all, maybe a 0.75 ton camper once in a blue moon. usually used for highway kms at the weekend...when i get time (young family)...

Now i dont know if its always been there but i can hear a knock when the engine is under load when cold. idling its fine and once warmed up its OK but say gently accelerating away when the engine is cold i get a pronounced knocking at a certain rev range. if i rev normally in neutral cant hear anything..again only under load. My old KZTE did a simlar thing and i got 300,000 out of her so am i worrying about nothing or should i get it checked?

if i need to get it checked does anyone have any exp. on loading and setting up techstream on windows 10? i have the software and a cable, i just haven't got round to installing it....

Its still under warranty as it was bought in 2013.
2013 (12 build) GX Auto.......with safari snorkel, toyota bar, tow bar, roof racks, led spots with fancy newpro switchgear, uniden remote UHF and aerial, ARB bash plates, Roadsafe recovery points, digoptions radio, general grabber AT2s, cheap ebay roof rack that has stood up surprisingly well.....

The answer is always get it checked. Get it checked every 10,000k service.
Get it checked anytime you are sus on noise, smoke, running rough, just anything unusual.
Get it checked by an expert.
