My cars in getting 4 new injectors and all the associated parts replaced under warranty from Toyota today. Long story short it had a really bad cold start rattle... cold start test showed all injectors to be well within spec but there was an issue anyway. Toyota techs asked for a "snapshot" when the engine is running... not to sure what the results of the test was but based on the test they agreed to replace everything under warranty.

Hopefully when I get it back its running nice and quiet

*SIGH* So, my 150 VX turns 4 years old on Sunday. Last Monday, I was going up a hill, lost power, blew smoke and the car started shaking. Initial investigations pointed to the injectors being out of tolerance. Further investigations indicate that the No. 3 cylinder is dead. Waiting to hear more, but this is not good!

Of course, I'm out of warranty now, and not impressed. Just sharing ;-(

Suction Control Valve.

When mine went it sounded like it was going to rattle itself to bits when cold, when it warmed up the sound all-but disappeared.

Unfortunately my brand new denso replacement is starting to do the same thing again...

If im right (see above post) then I can see why they were happy to sort it under warranty - SCV replacement including labour is less than $300!

Statutory warranty may apply depending on km's travelled, service history and what caused the problem. If it's over fuelling due to the injectors failing then there is enough evidence about to force a case IMO depending on the above info.

I don't have it back yet... turns out they ordered the injectors for a 120 series... hopefully get it back this afternoon.

It was a 2012 Prado.

That's interesting. Under the CPL, I deginately would not have bought the vehicle if I know the engine would die in under 4 years. Thanks for this. The service centre have said they will contact toyota to see what sort of 'good will' they're prepared to provide... Will wait and see, but thanks for this! ��

Nadsy, plenty of info in the 120 series diesel engine section of the forum relating to these issues. The fact that they mention 'good will' is an indicator as well. Start gathering info from the forum and print off in preparation. Every case I have read about here in PP has ended up in the consumer's favour. If you are willing to go the distance you will win, assuming this is related to the problem of premature failure of the injectors.

Even if it's not the injectors, assuming low km's and solid service history, the motor should last longer than it has.

No.3 piston will have the usual hole in it.
Caused by injectors not being monitored. Such an easy preventative maintenance but so any places including Toyota not too worried about checking these things.

I was informed today, by Toyota Extended Factory warranty, that they will cover for the exchange of 2 injectors (not for all of them, as they are within spec)
That leaves me with paying the remaining 2 injectors, which will cost me $800 + GST. Can someone comment on that pricing please?

$880 for two genuine injectors is about trade pricing from what I remember. I wouldn't be complaining too much, full set of new injectors for $880 is a bargain in my books. Get them to check and record the valve clearances while they are in there, even if you have to pay for half an hours labour its worth it while in there.

Thanks Riv39 and #############... I'm definitely willing to go the distance, as you are correct... No.3 piston has a hole in it. They've just told me that I'm most likely looking at a new Engine given where all they've found metal filings!!

Pricing is good.

Jump up & down & tell them Toyota knows they should be replaced as a set. They will have similar wear. Or pay.
