G'day all. I'm new here but wondering if anyone has customed their own Rear Drawer System for their 90 Series? I have a 98 model with no rear seats so looking to put some drawers in the instead. I would really appreciate any tip, ideas etc. Cheers, Dylan

Hey Deeks,
I built my own set of drawers and a fridge slide/tilt system a few months ago and they came up pretty well but I gotta say it took freakin ages and was a pretty full on trial and error project. I have been meaning to put up some pics so someone else can benefit from it and will hopefully do that in the next week or so. I found the Pradopoint site and Google the best resources for hints and tips and I also found it useful going to a company that makes custom drawers to get a quote (i.e. pinch a few ideas)
To give you an idea of costs, I spent approx. $750 on materials for the drawers and approx. $250 on the fridge slide - compared to the best quote I had for the drawers to be made was just under $2,000 and a much more basic fridge slide with hutch was $400 - so I did save a good chunk of money but if I added up all the time spent sourcing the bits and pieces and the time it took to build, versus the money I saved by doing it myself, I would've been on a miserably low hourly rate!!
I really enjoyed the process of building it myself and I had the time (and didn't have the money to pay someone to do it) and it is pretty cool knowing you made it yourself. I wouldn't call myself a carpenter but I'm fairly handy.
Will get those photos up asap
Cheers, Benno

Here's the first one I ever made - and I still use it today for day trips and some short camp trips. It's very light, easy to remove, effective for the basics.

Here's the second one I made over 4 years ago which includes a bed - but it's being put into retirement now as I build a replacement one.

The third one I'm currently working on. It will allow the 3 middle row seats to be installed with minimal interruption to bed/shelf system. It'll also offer variable bed height and a fridge slide. It's just a work in progress though!

Thanks Benno, I look forward to seeing the pics that you have of your set-up. Once I get a start on my drawers I will post some pics as well, it's just that it takes time and time is something I have little of these days, but I'll get it done!!! Let me know when the pics are up, Cheers Mate...Dylan

No draw runners on this set up. I was going to do it but at the cost of $$ and space they take up i just sanded the hell out of the inside and out side of the draws and they slide reasonably well even with an air compressor and all my recovery gear weighing them down. My wife has no problems sliding them out when full.
Dimensions? Have no idea. Can take some if you like tomorrow when the wife is back.
The top shelf sits the same height as the second row seats when folded forward. The draws are nearly the length of the cargo area to the back of the seats. Minus about 200mm as i have a tool box/ hidden area here.Mint 1999 GXL Prado - Work in progress

G'day Darran, yeah nice mate, I'm not sure if I'll use runners yet, just sussing out options!!! Dimensions would be good if you've got time etc, I don't want to hassle you!!! What do you use your rig for? I live in the Flinders Ranges SA so "Bunky" see's a bit of rough stuff...On another note, do you know how to put a pic on your profile, posts etc on here (I have no idea)?

Hope this helps.
This rig is the wifes daily driver + her/ my toy. We use it for touring, towing, bush bashing, mud runs, rock gardens, beach fishing, shopping. The thing gets looked after but it also gets used for what it was made for. We dont spend $$$$ on these things to not use it. Well alot of guys on here do! Have a name brand 2014 dual cab too but wont touch it, i like the old stuff.
As for your Profile pic, i think you need to have 10 posts or some thing before you can put one up.Last edited by Darran K; 22-04-2015, 07:23 PM.Mint 1999 GXL Prado - Work in progress
