  • Early's 150 TD Prado

    Hi all,

So, I thought in keeping with the forum spirit of show and tell, here's my build which will cruise along at a speed dependent on how much $$ my swmbo allows me to spend. Lets say it's to take advantage of getting to know the car better before any significant mods start.

Brand new Nov 2014 GX, Glacier white, auto, and looking like every other soccer mum out there:

    And so the mods begin...

First up decided to stick on some TJM sidesteps to give me something to step onto when cleaning and fiddling with roof racks, and to stop rocks flicking up and scratching door panels.

Photo of the chassis rail bracket which will hold the steps in place.

In keeping with a black and white colour scheme, the alloy has been powdercoated. This will save me from polishing off water marks and also rounds off some sharp egdes

After side steps were installed (1hr job), The snorkel was next.

Before. Last time I see smooth bodylines on this section of the car

          After.

I got a Tanami snorkel with a trial Wedgetail head which is made by Airtec manufacturer who also manufactures genuine Nissan and Ford snorkels - Australian made and designed, and quality of Airtec.
The wedgetail design was originally conceived with partnership with Isuzu offroad motorsports as a solution to heavy rain water ingestion by conventional snorkels, and as a solution to snorkel heads being torn off by low-lying branches and vines.
You can't see the the air intake grill from this angle, but it takes in air flowing over the windshield.

For me, it adds the bonus of looking different and the option of changing to an Airtec head.

Instead of a heavy steel bullbar or alloy bullbar which don't seem to fit the teardrop front headlights, I decided to wait and make do with a nudgebar.

ECB alloy nudgebar powdercoated...black. Quick 30 min job.

Ordered these a couple weeks before receiving the Prado and have been itching to fit them on:

Lenso RTE rims 17" by 8.0" with ET20. These are the 4x4 series offered by Lenso. Was originally after the RTC's but out of stock in Australia. Of course.
And lots of 'umm'ing and 'harrr'ing was done on the choice of tyres, but then thought 'Bugger it, it'll stay on the road till a lift kit' so just transferred over the stock Grandtreks.

And some roof rails to carry the kayaks.

It's dark outside, but the best i can do with existing phone photos

The rear wheels axle needed the center hub painted black because otherwise they're a brown steel colour

Never liked fiddling with wires...Wiring up a Narva lightbar for the nudgebar with a Narva Spotlight wiring loom. There is a very small hole on the drivers side firewall which turned out to be perfect for the wire to feed through. Wired to activate with highbeams and switched with a push button which looks identical to genuine buttons.

And some genuine rubber floor mats

They do make centre caps, but they are massive things that go over the 6 wheel studs as well.
Google image "Lenso RCC" and you'll see the centre caps.
