I replaced a front left hand one shortly after buying the 120 in 2008. I have since used a few self tapping screws to secure a couple of pins that have been lost or don't work.

Manufacturers will choose components on price, down to a couple of cents. A bolt with a Nylox nut would be way too extravagant. It would also be heavier.
Their main aim is for a good fuel economy figure on that sticker in the front window, keeping the overall manufacturing cost down, and as long as it will last the warranty period....It's all good!!

And then the Toyota service guys come along and simply tug on the flap instead of removing the clip causing the rubber to split. They then deny responsibility. Who the f*&k else would need to remove the flap I say if you lunatics are the only ones servicing the car?Dave
