Don't forget the glue lined heatshrink and split tubing. You will also need big cutters to cut the cable.

Buy the crimper. You're not just doing 1 crimp. There's a few to do. Do it once, do it right.

I gather you have a soldering Iron correct? Do you also have a paint stripping heat gun? used in combination you can solder large lugs with decent success.

I have access to a soldering iron. Aldi have a butane soldering kit on sale at the moment.
I don't have a heat gun, I use a hair dryer for heat shrink.

Disconnect the jumper cables and maybe run the engine for a minute or 2 just to be sure.

Happy to report that this worked a treat for the weekend.
I have a trip planned to Mayford on the 18th and 19th of April. Unfortunately, I wont have a chance before then to get all the Dual Battery gear ordered, delivered and installed. I will have to wing it and use the Jumper Lead method again if I'm concerned, though, the fridge can run off the internal 12v socket while we drive in and out.

            Good to hear.

More importantly, how did your missus who doesn't do camping, like the camping?

            Cheers Andrew

I got the impression she enjoyed it. Except the bit where an animal decided that my Weber smelled too good not to attack at midnight...My bad, should have put it in the car.
I also didnt mention the mysterious, and somewhat legendary, Strathbogie Ranges "big cat". Not sure she would have appreciated it.

A lesson learned, experience has taught us to secure all cooking gear and food, as well as rubbish and scraps before heading to bed. We have had dingo's in the camp at night but Possums are the worst, those little buggers will try anything for a feed.

Anyway, good to hear that she enjoyed it, I know my missus was sceptical many years ago when I first suggested camping, but she loves it.

                Cheers Andrew

I'm usually pretty on the ball about this sort of thing...I must have been over it when I went to bed and didn't bother

We had a possum try and break into the foodsafe once. Caught in the act. He/she was standing on the tailgate, one front paw holding onto the trailer canopy, the other trying to open the safe. In the torchlight it turned around with a 'who me?' expression on its face. Had to drop the tarp every night after that episode.

For 2 days have you every thought of an ESKY? . . . . .

Seems like a lot of trouble to go through compared to freezing some water

I tottered along with an esky for years. The joys of a fridge are endless. Especially when its 40 degrees in the shade!

I was of the same opinion until I went camping for 3 days at Wonnangatta, with my esky, and ended up moving the esky every couple of hours to find the shade. It was 30-35 degrees during the day and my ice (2 x 1 litre uhf milk cartons plus 3 techni-ice sheets) lasted until about halfway through Day 2. After then it was cool in the esky, but not cold and everything was wet.

This doesn't occur with a fridge.

There is a lot of effort for the first couple of trips, yeah. But it will quickly pay for itself...

dont get me wrong I have 2 x 40L Engels

BUT for a 2 day trip if i wasn't rigged up id be getting a better esky and cryvac meat KISS

I have a new 150 gxl that we picked up in Feb (sweet ride), I have not put in a duel batt yet with the VSR v DCDC saga challenging war and peace im thinking the esky may get a workout :-)

$1000 - $1500 for duel bat + $1200 in fridge buys a LOT of ice

if you cant get 5 days out of your esky in heat get a better ice box - I have never used techniice ???/ but i do use about 10l of block ice on the bottom of a 70L Evacool with some crushed on top - works for me

Fair Point, but all up, I'll have the fridge and dual battery for just over $1k.
And I was sick of ice melting...

Just to neatly tie up my original question, I purchased 7 metres and ran it along the transmission tunnel and up through a grommet at the rear of the Prado.
For the route I chose, its about the perfect length.
