The only external difference I've seen is in regards to the breathers. I have a 5VZ auto, and my transfer's breather is horizontal on the driver side of the transfer gear stick, but only as a tube, which routes over to the auto transmission (where the auto has the external breather). Whilst a 1KD auto, I've seen it's transfer's breather is on the passenger side of the transfer gear stick, and it's an actual breather pointing vertically. Additionally, someone with a 1KD manual said his breather is also on the passenger side of the transfer stick.
Let me know what engine/transmission/breather arrangement you have and it may help to understand this puzzle!glen_ep - engineered, 4" lift, 33" 255/85R16, lockers, 4.88 ratios www.pradopoint.com.au/showthread.php?17237 www.youtube.com/user/glenep www.fb.com/groups/ToyotaPrado90

Should of look in the manual before replying. According to the bible there's 2 type's of transfer fit in the 90 as Glen has stated. VF3BM is fitted to the early auto and all manual's. The VF3B is fitted to the late model auto's only. So there you go prado rig. If you have the early model 90's auto transfer case, it should go straight on the back of the manual gearbox no drama.96 3.4 GXL, 2" lift, Poly airs in rear, 32" BFG muddies, Lightforce 170's HID's, TJM rack, Awning, Twine on board shower, GME uhf, Dual batteries & monitor, Storage system, ARB fridge, LED rear lighting, Safari snorkel, Brown Davis bash plate, Ironman winch bar, Runva 11xp winch, Roadsafe recovery points, ARB compressor, Tyre dog monitor, AJ's sliders, Hema hn6. Oh bugger. Looking at the wiring diagram's with that transfer case fitted. Look's like there's a ECU that control's the stepper motor on back of transfer case. I'm sure if you have the later model Prado should be a plug and play set up with the ECU fitted. Will be slightly harder if you have the earlier model but should be do able with a little wiring know how. With out looking at both transfer case's side by side, unsure if you could remove the motor off the back, and fit the stubby stick in some how. Or you could just pull and the stuffed gear out of the new one and fit it to your old one. To me that sound's cheaper and easier than mucking around with the wiring. Good luck mate96 3.4 GXL, 2" lift, Poly airs in rear, 32" BFG muddies, Lightforce 170's HID's, TJM rack, Awning, Twine on board shower, GME uhf, Dual batteries & monitor, Storage system, ARB fridge, LED rear lighting, Safari snorkel, Brown Davis bash plate, Ironman winch bar, Runva 11xp winch, Roadsafe recovery points, ARB compressor, Tyre dog monitor, AJ's sliders, Hema hn6.
