Thoughts/ Help on Buying new 120 series

I had a quick squiz at prices of 2009 120 series GXL's in Carsales, this is what the market says;



The data includes 5 cars from WA and 4 from QLD, so it is realistically weighted towards WA prices.

You can see that the Prado you are looking at is very under-priced compared to the rest of the market.

I would be a little bit suss about this, it has to be this low for a reason compared to the rest of the market.

If the VIN numbers check out with Dept. Transport and it hasn't been crashed up, and it is mechanically ok, then maybe you're onto a bargain for WA??

Sounds like a lot of wear from your description for a low klm vehicle. They fixed the rear door drop in late 04. Some still do it but normally only if running a bigger tyre on the back and/or corrigations. Looking at the drivers seat on the base it looks ok. They normally start to collapse just near the recliner handle but that looks ok. I'd say it's just been out in the weather. Check the dash/speedo for any cracks and around the top of instrument cluster make sure no fine cracks. If there are any it will spread very quickly.... Looks ok to me in the pics but picks can be deceiving. Also noticed the rego number in the add is different to the one on the actual vehicle ???... Cheers Steve

Thats good info - yes I have done a few searches through Gumtree, Car sales and Car point and yes it very well priced, especially when you throw in a 3 year warranty (Yup I know they are not the best, but better than nothing). But I am a bit suspect so will raise this with the dealership and do some checks on Tuesday. My gut is not convinced yet and I'm still warming to the green colour…..slowly but yes on paper it seems like a bargain. But I will give platinum a buzz if I decide to make a move and purchase……I this case I will really need someone who knows there Prados!

I have emailed a couple of private sellers who were asking more (Higher km's, earlier year) such as this http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...-3213046/?Cr=8 to see if they are willing to negotiate on price. I guess having a car advertised like that does help a little when you can reference it as a tool to negotiate a better price.

It appears they have put a premium price on this one due to the year and low kilometers. Also, as mentioned, used vehicles seem to hold a higher price in WA.

If you are open to looking further afield and going back a few years the prices drop considerably. Many have relatively low km's, full service history, extras, etc.

The dealer probably won't budge to much on this one because they don't have to.

For my money there are to many red flags on this one. Will you be buying a rolling bucket of trouble?

Buying used vehicles annoys the shit out of me. I have no tolerance for bullshit. At the first hint of something amiss its better to walk away than make an expensive mistake.

Its up to you want all that is worth.

The WY---- number would be a shire plate. My understanding is you need to live in the area to obtain or retain this plate, hence them changing to a generic state plate.
