  • Prado to LC Stories

Interested to hear feedback from peeps (who are still reading PP forums) that have gone from a Prado to a Landcruiser, particularly the 200. Or alternatively, anyone who's down / upgraded from an LC to Prado.

Any views on reliability, off-road ability & comfort relativities would be appreciated.

    thanks guys

We went from the 2009 120 GXL to a 200 Altitude late last year, first impression was the amount of room within the 200 and of course the effortless power for towing our van, with not that much of an increase in fuel consumption.
200 does not come with as many 'toys' as the 120 which was a surprise given the dollar difference, but what a joy when it comes to towing, off road it is just as capable as the Prado but bigger of course, one thing wefoundthe other dy washy toyota must use straight cut gears in the low range transfer box for the noise that is made when in low range would wake the dead.

Would we change again,my oaf the extra room inside for all passengers (teenage son ) is great and did I mention the joy of towing the van now

I'm considering doing something different, going from a Prado to a Kluger. I need something not as tall to get into city car parks but I still want the size/space of a Prado. I'm at 2000 in the Prado, highest car park I can find is 2100, most are 1850 or 1950. 200 stock is 1905, add suspension and tyres and too tall for the city, Kluger is 1730. Keeping the Prado for 4wd duties, Kluger can still tow the camper to caravan parks etc.

I found this article which says that the Disco has a kneel setting which lowers the suspension by 50mm. Useful for carpark.

I went from a 100 to a 120 then to the 200......LOVE it.......honestly it's great rig mines an 08 GXL and it really is a bit sparce on options I suppose for the flagship tojo.......the only thing I really miss is steering wheel stereo controls I suppose but from 2009 update apparently they were standard,

Fuel consumption is I think outstanding for a vehicle of this size......towing a 2,2t boat is around the 16-17 ltrs per 100 cruising on 110-120 not towing hwy use cruising at 130 around 14's and sitting on 100 around 11-12.

Extra room in the back for the 60 engle on slide and everything you could or would want to jam in there I had a sheet of 2400x1200 15mm ply in there the other day and 6 lengths of 40x40 2700 long alloy box section....all fitted no worries.

Massive amount of second row leg room which everyone comments on..........No oil consumption issues what so ever.

Mine was standard apart from ARB winch bar and Safari snorkel but since purchase I've done a 50mm lift allround fitted 285 70 17 as they are standard 65 series which IMO is shit and gives virtually no tyre choice........isolated the batterys with an intervolt system so it can be pre programmed for battery drain for the fridge pulled out the 3rd row seats and made a false floor and fitted a fridge slide.......fitted an after market reverse camers and monitor head unit and had the windows tinted.......and about to fit the 2 way radio.

Mate make sure you get the KDSS option........a mate has non KDSS at they need it........they are a big heavy car......mine handles so much better than his with the exact same EFS/Dobinson spring set up.

I won't bitch about my 120 Prado as it was definatly a good rig and a fella from work has it now and loves it.......but the 200 is way better IMO.

            Can I still play now I have a 200 series?........Had a 2008 120 Series D4D Manual 6 Speed...STANDARD White, Soverign Bar..........Rear Cage........Dashmat.......GX Wheels with Good Year Dura Tracs........Bilstein/Dobbo 2'' lift.....Safari Snorkel....Canvas Seat Covers.....20%tint..........55W HID Headlights.....Mudmats front and rear.....
            22'' Lightbar......

How do the guys with 200's get around the gvm issue?
Add a caravan with 200kg ball weight and having all your accessories fitted you have to start losing passenger's
you can only carry like 500kg's total

I ran a 4WD course for some guys with the 200 series T/diesel V8 wagons. The climbing ability was amazing with the V8 barely ticking over. Even with all the electronic trickery turned off they still performed extremely well off road. Keeping them to the speed limit on road and keeping the speed down off road can be an effort.

in QLD the Blue Plate suspension/GVM upgrade can be done post initial registration. You need to install a specific vendor pre-authorised package and have it done in a certified shop etc. There is a Lovells package also

If you get it upgraded post rego then it is only valid in that state. Pre rego it is valid AU wide.

I can't tell if that is true from the Lovells site's information, as rego is a state based system; do you have a link to a federal site or something to read about state versus country?
