  • Recent Pad and Rotor Change.

Gday fellas, about 2 months ago i teplaced ny front pads and rotors. For the rotors i used Tora dimpled and slotted rotors, ive used Tora rotors previously in my GQ and Hilux but this time massive failure! The LHF rotor literally cracked right down the centre when i called the supplier they told me theyd received a "faulty" batch of rotors from the manufacturer. Theyve supplied me with a set of DBA T2 slotted rotors which ive had dimpled at the local brake specialist and teamed them up with Remsa pads. All in all they are working a treat! Ive used the bendix 4wd pads previously and wasnt happy with the stopping power, the Remsa pads are very grippy even though they do get dusty quickly. So if your after a solid set of pads and not too worried about dusty wheels id day Remsa are the way to go.. just my 2 cents.. cheers

Pretty simple really, with dimpled and slotted rotors you get the cooling and dust dispersion of a drilled and slotted rotor without the common cracking around the drilled sections.

Actually more the reason for the dimples and slots is to allow the gasses to escape that form between the pad and disk when braking. The gasses reduce the braking efficiency.

Kinda where i was going with the dispersion of brake dust, the gases would also be dispersed..

Got 180,000 out of the original front pads and 204,000 from rear pads, towed a 2 1/2 tonne van for 100,000 klms of that with no problems.
Disks ok so pads only changed at TOyota dealers. Have never needed any extra braking power as the standard equipment has been good.

I have never heard of brakes lasting that long especially on a 4wd.. at 180k theres no way at all that the rotors would be fine mate..

Sorry to disappoint ya, but that is the distance, told the service dept to notify me if disks need work and both times, told that the front at 180000 and rears around 204000 that disks hardy worn. None needed skimming either as they only had minor scratches which were only a few thou deep.
Being a diesel there is no need to hammer the brakes, especially when towing as the van slows you down more than without it.

The discs & pads can & do last that long.
It is reduced with heavy use & offroad. Everyone's driving habits vary a lot!

I replaced my rotors and pads two months ago at less than 100k. I had problems with the original rotors warping. When I get round to it I will put up some photos for a DIY. Easy way to save a couple of $k.
The original ones were hardly worn. One had been machined and then warped again. Got tired of it so swapped them all out. Without the warping I think 200k would have been doable.
I got Tora rotors slotted and drilled and bendix pads.
Really happy with them. I must have missed the dodgy ones by a fly's #$% coz I ordered same time as Ammarg I reckon.

I'm about to do my 200K service. First pad change and rotors will be skimmed. Diesel manual and an old fart driving= long life.

Have you guys heard of Powerbrake? Supposed to one of the leading 4wd discs around. My discs warped after a hard bush trip due to all the rapid cooling when doing water crossings. Having them replaced this week so I will be a able to give some feedback next week. Discs have done 165k km.

Mate how you finding the new rotors and pads? ive just ordered the exact same from the online auto parts place, $380 front and rear bendix pads with tora rotors shipped to my door, about $280 cheaper than the DBA rotors with the same pads. Can't seem to find any reviews from anyone who has used them apart from you.
                            Cheers

Mate i am lovin the new brakes! They are pulling up awesome.. the only real downside is i have to wash the pradi more often haha alot of brake dust.. let me know how your bendix pads hold up with the tora rotors sambo1983..
Oh also the reason you might not be able to find reviews about them is that they trade under a different name from supplier to supplier.. try lookin for Reton slotted and dimpled same brand different name... goodluck mate!
