Second time round is more likely to need valve clearance adjustment.

Hey ####, I know this is a diesel thread but I read in another thread that the clearance check should be done for petrol engines too. Is that correct and if so at what K's?

From memory every 80k, by Toyota schedule. Incase Toyota don't know & they want to check yours,
The specs for 1gr fe are (Cold):
Intake 0.15 to 0.25 mm
Exhaust 0.29 to 0.39 mm

I wouldn't be to concerned, again they generally don't go out, maybe at high Klm's.
Depends on its use.
If one has made a decision to run on LPG, you might want to check them.
But I wouldn't bother till at least 160 or more likely 240k on a petrol.
I don't see too many especially with high Klm's. more diesels with high Klm's.
Ask ##########, mickl or boxhead their experiences are valued.

I think the later models eg; in the f gay, might have hydraulic, so if I was doing one, I would do some research first.

Hi All I have had my 120 since new July 07. At 120000 kls I had the death rattle from the injectors. Toyota at the time said Its my problem not theirs so I spent $2800 to replace them.( not with Toyota but a diesel specialist.) My Q is how do you think I would go getting the money back from Toyota. The car has now done 170000 kls i.e. 50000 kls on the new ones an running well.

I think you'd have no chance Trickie - as plenty before me have said, injectors are a wear and tear item. (it still hurts to pony-up with the cash though, been there, done that!)

Have a crack, its a worthwhile cause and could put $2800 back in your wallet. If Toyota come back with "No" again, go to consumer affairs / fair trading. From what I can find, toyo make no mention anywhere in information, service or the owners manual to any reference about injector wear and the need for replacement (correct me if wrong). Hence, I think you will find that consumer affairs / fair trading will be on your side. How else, other than from this site are we supposed to know the injectors require replacing?? I took out the extended warranty specifically for this issue, read the fine print very, very carefully to ensure the injectors were covered, should it (or when it :/) happen/s to my 150.

How else, other than from this site are we supposed to know the injectors require replacing??

Its been common knowledge since forever that injectors in diesel engines wear out and need replacing, I have always worked on the theory that after 100 thou the injectors in your diesel engine are likely due for replacement. Its not something I would necessarily expect to see or read in an owners manual, its such a basic common knowledge thing for anyone who knows much about diesels that's it barely worth mentioning, you just know it.

my Prado is the first diesel I have owned.
Thanks to this site I made the call to go diesel knowing the cost of replacement injectors and other costs.
Personally I would not go back to petrol for a $wd (Not a Typo they cost $ ) or tow vehicle.
I Normally take a long time to make up my mind on which way to go. But with the Prado for me diesel was a no brainer.

this is only my opinion.
there are a lot of people that purchase something with doing the research first.
you gota know what your up for in the long run.

I have had customers contact Toyota & they have been told they can be reimbursed an amount for the labour & parts, but not injectors.
They just needed to put in their claim.
You have the evidence, they should have been done at the 40k usually by Toyota dealers, so as a minimum you have a case of paying for a handbook service & it not being done. This is 100% confirmed by the wording in the customer service exercise.

Now I'm glad you got them done, because everybody needs new Injectors, not just free seats & put their head back in the sand.

Well done, that's the attitude.
It's my belief that ########## was the biggest part of getting the 1kd injector problems known.
Most others preferred to be silent or say its not that bad.

It's all sorted. Baileys DLC injectors fitted, new fuel pipes, EGR checked and cleaned and a few other bits and bobs.

Purrs like a kitten now and runs like new.

Anthony did the job. Hassle free. Everything taken care of, great care taken with the installation, and I think a very fair price. Thanks Anthony.

I think this is a good risk management exercise for everybody with a D4-D ( or any common rail for that matter ) to consider.

How's the BDG injectors going?
