I was supposed to have them back yesterday. Chased them up today so hopefully have them tomorrow for a test fit on the weekend.

Thanks Tin for the brackets, mounted them yesterday and had Wanneroo Transmissions plumb it in while doing the service.
He was impressed with the quality of the brackets.
Have done about 50000 since last trans service towing a 12 foot van for a good part of the time.
He does a traditional service dropping the pan, oil was black so did a full flush as well.
Will be pulling it back to 40000 between trans services and se how much cooler improves.
He has had a few HiLux boxes do in the rear pump, this is same box as Prado but so far no faults on Prados

Just after input on exactly how "essential" this mod is. I'm sure as I type, there are literally hundreds of Prados driving around Australia towing big caravans with no after market transmission oil cooler installed.
I'm about to do 7500km towing a 1.4t camper trailer. Is it a problem that my transmission oil will hit 100deg????

Si I would say that this is a mod that everyone who tows or does sand driving should do. Having seen the state of the transmission oil from my BIL's 100 series which is towing about 2t of van for 1/4 of the year (same box as the Prado) after 100,000km I will be both fitting the cooler (yes I haven't gotten around to it yet) and changing the oil.

I was towing 1.5 tonne of trailer in the sand on Fraser. The tranny got to 95 degs. I'd be at least 110 deg without one.
I was talking to another 150 owner who tows a Cub camper brumby. First time they took it on the a 1 week trip on the bitumen the over temp light came on. I believe that is 150 deg C. I have read that the life of the oil degrades fairly quickly when you get above 95 degrees.

is it necessary to install Fan? Surely it would certainly improve by installing cooler 678 itself.

Fan is not needed. Cooler alone is good enough with less things to go wrong.

Hi Tin,
I'm thinking my 120 D4D could do with one of these.
My problem is I'm far from being a mechanic, and the closest I get to being a bush mechanic is the bush itself.
If I get the bracket, coolers and bits, is there someone in Southside Brisbane you'd know of/recommend?

How much hose did you use? In the first post you said "I also needed another metre of 3/8" oil cooler hose" so I bought 1m. But when I went to install it today (I know, super slow) it seems I need about 1m for each side - ie 2m total!
