  • ARB recovery points

We'll it seems ARB have finally developed recovery points for the 150, unfortunately they are $250, there is one each side unlike the Hilux, and if you don't install at the same time as the bullbar it's about 2 or so hours in the shop to remove and replace the bullbar.
Has anyone fitted these yet? Thoughts anyone?
They look really good quality and have obviously been purpose designed for the 150 with a lot of engineering and design going into them and look like they integrate really well with the ARB bar.
    Kev,

2010 Silver 5dr GXL, Auto, diesel, ARB Deluxe bar, ARB bash plates, lightforce 170's, safari snorkel, towbar, dual batteries, air bags, trans cooler, Kings/Koni's, ARB rack, Cooper S/T Maxx's, Rock Tamers, Beaudesert 2.75" exhaust and more to come.

Yep i just had one fitted when i got my bull bar fitted, it is a little beauty, it integrates well with bar, and it is definitely well designed and isn't going to fail, only got the LH side done couldn't justify near on $600 for 2 fitted, but my understanding is the bar doesn't have to come off to fit them.

When ARB Mandurah sent me the sales brochure and official install guide it said that if you have a bar installed to add 2 hours for remove and install on top of the 1 hour per side for the recovery points.
I like the idea of it being specifically designed to integrate with the bar and seems to be extremely well engineered in comparison to others, but the cost is a real sticking point.
That said I am trying to convince swmbo that strip to Tassie for the GTG would be a great way to tick Tassie off the bucket list, so will need to get some installed for that

If you have a winch on a bulbar, do you also need recovery points on the front ? To me, if you are bogged you would use your winch instead of a snatch strap (ie: use the second vehicle as your stationary winch point if there are no trees available).

I was quoted $180 but wasn't able to be quoted on labour. Glad I didn't go ahead by the sounds of it!

Should look the same as the hilux ones apparently.

What sort of bar did you get Mr prime ? I think outback ideas make 150 points with 2 fixings so you don't have to take the bar off. Those ones look solid, are they 3 fixing recovery points?

True, but if someone else was bogged I would rather rock up and not unravel my winch , possibly have to clean the rope when I get home and wind in etc but instead use the bogged cars snatch strap and pull them out using my recovery points which would also be quicker , possibly with the help of maxtrax if snatch didn't work first time depending on the depth of the bogged vehicle.

I was told you should never carry out snatch strap recoveries in reverse unless absolutely nesaseary. Apparently the gears in the diff are cut in such a way that they are their strongest when going forward, but much weaker in reverse.

I got the Deluxe winch bar, i don't know how many points are used to fix it to the car, but from the look of the quality of the recovery point i would say it would be 3 point. Ill have a look tomorrow, if i can see it what with the stone plates being in the way.

I'm pretty sure they have 3 fixing points

Yeah probably need to remove the bar(if it's an arb deluxe) to install as the front fixing is a bolt with the nut on the outside so when it is undone the bolt falls into the chassis. I think this is why most are 2 fixing.
                            Cheers Matt

Being an ARB product it's probably over engineered a fair bit but that price is pretty ridiculous
