Fuel problems

hi all, i have had a few problems with my 120 prado 08 model, i have run out of fuel a few times way before the gauge show's empty or the fuel light comes on.....last time it ran out the gauge was showing 3/4 tank on sub tank and the car died as i stopped for the lights.

I'm not sure how the 2 tanks work......is it pumped from one tank to the other or is the fuel just sucked from the sub tank to the fuel pump? i have looked underneath to see if anything has crushed a line.... but nothing.

Any thoughts guys

I believe I saw on here that the pump sucks the fuel from the front tank only, and somehow has a one way valve that empties the rear tank into the front tank to get the weight off the rear first.

Certainly sounds like the air lock problem on the 2nd tank. Can't find the thread that discussed the fix though.

take out the cover on top of the fuel tank under the seat on the LH side
have a look at the wires & the plug
if you read that link above that bushbasher put on that is most likely going to be your problem
but if you haven't changed the filter between the tanks change it as well

Anyone else had a problem running out of fuel when the gauge still shows over a quarter of a tank left?
At just over half, the low fuel light comes on.

I have replaced the filter between the two tanks and cleaned out the breather filter but no change.

2011 GXL D4D.

When this problem first showed about five tank fulls ago, I could fill the tank completely. Last fill only went to about 3/4 on the gauge
