2002 Prado Keyless Entry stopped working

Hello,
The Keyless entry for my 2002 Diesel Prado recently stopped working. I wasn't able to identify what caused or why the system stopped working. I replaced the battery in the Keyless entry unit, but that didn't help. The little red light on the genuine toyota unit that came with the vehicle still lights up, but no action with the car.
I removed the Glovebox as suggested by other posts with same topic, but it looks very complicated and I'm reluctant to mess with the looms and cables. There is no obvious damage apart from dust and dirt.
I purchased a genuine toyota replacement keyless entry from eBay, and I'm going to reprogram it when it arrives. Has anybody had a similar experience. Does the Receiver in the car fail? All doors still lock from any key, and being a 2002 model, the door opening system and locks are all genuine Toyota. Any ideas.

Key less unit is behind the passenger kick panel, no need to touch glovebox , check if the unit has power , there all the same through that era of toyota (corolla, rav4, cruisers, camrys) could try reprograming it

Received new Keyless entry unit in the mail today, and to cut a short story even shorter the new unit and the old one now work. Awesome, now I get a Keyless entry on my set of keys as well as my wife.
The instructions that came with the new Keyless entry were not quite right, but fortunately the original Toyota additional/extra Keyless/Alarm entry instructions were still with the Users Manual. The first time I followed these instructions the Prado went into Programming Mode. I tried with the mailed instructions and couldn't get the Prado to enter Programming Mode.

Here are the Original Instructions as with a Non Functioning Keyless Entry.

-Ensure a door is open (I jammed a Glove into the Drivers Door lock)
-Disconnect the negative battery cable, wait 5 seconds then reconnect
-Within 20 seconds of reconnecting the battery cable insert key into ignition and cycle the ignition key from the Acc position 20 times, leaving the key in the OFF position after the twentieth turn.
-Taking longer than 20 seconds from battery reconnection (to cycling key) will not allow entry into programming mode. (This info wasn't in the new instructions)
-The vehicle's indicators will flash 20 times to indicate successful entry into programming mode.
-On the twentieth flash of the indicators, press the button once on each transmitter.
-Turn the ignition key to the ON position to lock in and exit from programming mode.

This worked the first time for me and I hope it helps anyone who has the same problem.

I also think there were Electrical storms in the area when the keyless entry stopped working originally.
