  • Low Fuel Warning Light

Hi can anyone tell me when the low fuel warning light comes on and how much fuel is left?

At the moment my range reads 94KM and the fuel gauge is just under 1/8 (half way between empty and 1/4).

I still cant work out how the primary and sub tank work???? I have asked Toyota and cant get anyone to give me the same answer?

Yeah mine came on at 95km remaining. I fuelled up and could only put 126 litres in... ie 24ltrs remaining.

Just consider it as one big 150ltr tank...

Light comes on with 22l remaining. (15l for 120)

My last fill up went by the book. I refuelled 96km after fuel light came on (ie burned approx 12l after light). Car took 140l (ie had 10l remaining of 150l total capacity)
            12+10=22 reserve

I don't look at DTE. Rather I hit trip metre when fuel light comes on then give myself 100km to get my but to the servo.

Advantage of this technique is that a simple calculation tells you how much juice the car should take - particularly useful with the Prado that is known for refuelling difficulties - appearing full when it is far from it.

Disadvantage of this technique is that sometime mrs doesn't always notice the fuel light come on

              [QUOTE=SimonW;493513]Light comes on with 22l remaining. (15l for 120)

my first 120 series the light came on with 15L left ( this on filled up easy)
my second 120 series the light comes on with only 7L left
(this one takes 20L after the click on the pump an is hard to fill the last 10L)

if your light hasn't come on but the gauge is low , you will need to find out when it comes on so try go to 50km to go if it hasn't come on by then you may need to get it looked at
knowing when your light come on will give you peace of mind, but like mine if it is that low start filling it up when you get to quarter on the gauge so you don't get caught out

i now know mine comes on at 65km to go and almost on the empty line on the gauge
until i put the multi function display in mine i had no idea of how far i could go

always fill to a point you can see the fuel then keep a record of distance travelled
( i know i can do 1250km with the camper on 1500km with it off)

I filled up mine for the first time last weekend. My fuel light came on with 60km remaining and filled up with 2km remaining. I was a bit surprised that I it only took 124 litres.

I have had this problem quite a bit with my new 150. I'd bet that you drove out of the servo with a fuel load of 140l thinking that you had 150l. When fuel light came on you had 22l remaining, you then burnt about 7l before refuelling. To fill up completely you should have put in 135l, 10l more than it took.

Issue is that when refuelling and the tanks appear full -they are, but it ain't all dieso. 10 or 15 litres (in my experience) of the volume is air that can't purge. To put 150l of dieso in a tank, you have to purge 150l of air. People talk about foaming but the real issue IMHO is that fuel gets up in and plugs the breather line that is meant to allow the air to escape. This line opens/spills to the filler spout, right under your nose as you are refuelling.

When I refuel I always calculate what the car should take, based on Kms driven past fuel light. If the bowser clicks off early during refuelling I grab the roof rail, rock the car and wait a minute, then stand back and watch the "blockage fuel" gurgle and squirt out of the breather. Repeat as necessary. In another post Amts (I think?) suggested driving down to the next servo to get the final 10l in. The rock and roll of the drive settles everything down.

I never had an issue in 10 years with my 2004 120. By contrast I have to shake and wait every time with my 2014 150.

I can do upwards of 200k after the light comes on with no issues.

The only time I put 150l in was when the tanks were removed and cleaned out . On filling it took 150l .
                      Cheers Ross
