  • Cruisens 150 GX Buildup

    Hi All,

Just acquired a 2012 Prado GX, ex thirfty, great condition, 66k on clock with towbar and TL bullbar. Pics once i pick it up

It also has the 7 seats, which will be coming out soon as its home, (anyone got a 5 seater they want to swap the plastic panels and seats over?)...

Ive had a couple Suzuki Sierras in the past and an 80 Series which is in process being readied for sale, Also have a BJ40 i am trying to buildup, needed to consolidate my rego's and the prado fit the bill for being decent offroad whilst still being a good daily car. (now to sell my subaru and 80 series)...

    Mods planned
    Muffler change to sports one
    Tint all over
    Weather shields/seat covers etc
Dual batteries with custom rear power panel
    drawers
    Fit my awning onto something
LED light bar + reverse lights
    snorkel

    Lift 2-3"
    offroad tyres (thinking 265/70/17)

Im sure i will have plenty of questions coming up :-)

You do know that technically you need to get the compliance plate changed as you have changed it from a 7 seater to a 5? I know plenty of people do it and don't see why it would create an issue but the regulators see it differently.

Have fun with the build, sounds like you have a few cars to offload LOL.

I have spoken with a vehicle engineer about this, and with the prado's this is not the case as the seats are designed to come out (in the 120s at least). They have a button you push and the seats eject. You do not have to undo any bolts etc so it is not a modification.

Ah OK, that makes sense. The situation would be the same for the 90s too I guess.

Some models of 150s have electric 3rd row seats though (assume not in the GX as the 3rd row are optional). In that case wouldn't it be classed as a mod?

From what I can tell (and correct me if I'm wrong), in Victoria at least, the removal of seats (in a seven seat Prado) does not require approval. Adding or replacing is a different story.

Not sure where the OP is located but if these codes are uniform across states (from previous experience they are not) then he doesn't have a problem. Sorry, was just going off previous threads on here. Did not mean to derail the OP's build thread.

Hey mate looking good. The drawers you are making is a bit similar to the ones I made for the back of mine. Will be good to see yours when they are done.

                              Updates:

2" ARB lift is in and raised a fair bit, looks and drives well
Booked in for new tyres and alignment next week. 265/70/17s onto 17x7.5 FJ cruiser rims
Dual batteries are now in finally and wired up, 90% cabling has been run in the car over to the back.

I'll put up some pics of the rear distribution panel up, sockets/switches and more.
Drawers are slowly getting there, runners have arrived but not had chance to play more, will upload some pics soon...
