I run them at 38 cold, the dealer rotates every 10k and pumps up to 40psi every time. The ride is smooth and very comfortable.

Dropped down to 38 as well. Much better ride now than at 43 and less noisy. Good little tweak.

When I picked up my prado, they were at the placard setting, around 32. The first roundabout I went around was 100m up the road and the tyres howled all the way around it and I knew that they were under spec straight away.

The same thing happens with the Subarus I've had, they need 3-4psi above spec to stop the squeal.

For what it's worth, on the daily drive I run D697's (245/70/17) at 38 cold.

For all you guys running higher than factory pressure, have you considered that by exceeding factory specifications you may not be covered by warranty or even insurance ? When you received the vehicle you agreed to use it within specifications, in return Toyota agreed to cover you. Why should they cover you for faults related to pressure given you've exceeded specification by 25%+ ? If you have an accident and the report stated the tyres were over-inflated, then you will have the burden of proving they did not contribute to the accident. If I was Toyota/Insurance Co that is what I would be arguing.

My experience: Delivered at 40 PSI, service at 3 different dealers and has always been around the 40 range post service.

Yeah but the spec is 29psi so isn't it the dealers that are "over-inflating"?
Hence, I doubt that Toyota would refuse warrantee.

(mine was delivered at 40psi too)

I have Bridgestone D697s and the advice from Bridgestone was to run them at 43psi. They are light truck tyres so the placard pressure isn't suitable, 29psi is too low.

I've sen my tyres vary by 12psi just due to ambient temperature, so not sure how you could maintain " correct" pressure for warranty and insurance!

I would also think that ou would go by the tyre manufacturers specs, not Toyotas, if you are within the range the tyre manufacturer allows then I can't see an issue.

                    Cheers Andrew

I agree with AJ, I wouldn't worry about any stickers on the cars or manuals, the tyre manufacturers specs is what id be looking at.
Mine was delivered with 40 and ive kept them at 40, the specs on the GT's are max of 51psi. As long as you don't exceed the maximum rating of the tyre i don't think you would have any problem with insurance in regards to pressure.

...and God forbid we should leave the blacktop. Toyota and my insurance co. would have kittens if the found out I keep a compressor on board!
