  • Parker Fuse Constantly Blowing?

    Hi People

Has anyone ever experienced their park light fuse (10 amp) constantly blowing? I have had several electricians look at it and spent hours myself trying to pinpoint the case with no success.

Just thought it may be a common issue? 99% sure it is something under the dash, as when i move things it will go away but a few days of driving it will return.

Car is a 2000 model V6 GXL. I'm in Adelaide if anyone knows a great electrician who likes a challenge!

    Cheers

Any accessories , tow bar etc that may be hooked up to the circuit?

I bet if you have a tow bar or bull bar with park lights in the bar, the aftermarket plug/wiring harness is spliced into the factory wiring using crappy scotch locks. Get rid of them and solder the wires and the problem should be fixed. If it isn't, at least you have done the job properly, not half arsed like most accessory fitters.

I have checked towbar wiring. It has a genuine towbar with correct factory wiring. The fuse will blow with towbar wiring, tail lights, front parkers (in bar & next to headlights) all disconnected. It is becoming a total pain!

Ok what you need to do is make your self up a short checker , you do this with a halogen bulb , make up a harness withe some spade connectors so the globe goes in place of the fuse , have the globe sitting so you can see it and start wriggling things , when the short occurs you will see the globe light right up.
If necessary you may have to drive around and keep note of what you are doing when this occurs.
It is a pain but this technique has never failed me

Unfortunately if the fuse blows intermittently it is not going to be an easy fix.

Does the fuse only blow when you drive the car, ie wire movement?

Does it possibly blow when you turn another item on, maybe crossed with another circuit?

If it only happens when you drive it could be something has abraded the wiring or a loose component etc. You will need to try and segment the wiring to localise the fault, careful examing of the loom will then be required or as suggested wire up a test lamp and move the wiring etc and see if you can localise the fault that way.

You haven't done anything to the car just before the problem occurred by any chance?

Have you fitted a aftermarket radio recently?
