Yes had a great time . Was very quiet up there with only a handful of cars there. Did some green , orange & red tracks. Had a fat time driving some more challenging tracks than I had driven before. Everyone did their fair share of driving on 3 wheels. Few beers sat night round the fire & good company . Top weekend.

SEQ – Weekend at Land Cruiser Mountain Park -29th & 30th November - The Return

                        Trip Summary

Last year when we were out at Land Cruiser Mountain Park we had a brilliant time, but with 10,000 acres there were so many places & tracks we missed out on. Fast forward and over a few cold beers recently we plotted our return and a date was set , This was going to be our sequel to a favourite movie

Unfortunately due to all the work and family commitments around Christmas time many dropped out, but a small core group were keen on going.

A quick pack up Friday night and we were away early Saturday morning to met up with Rob and Matt at the BP North for a coffee on the way to LCMP, before meeting Sam out there. There was a threat of rain but as we got there it turned into a beautiful day, also with the cooler change coming through temps dropped from high 30’s last week, to 25 degrees, making it a very pleasant temperature.

A quick recap from the orginal LCMP movie….
“Land cruiser mountain park has about 10,000 acres. It has a mix of all kinds of trails from 4wd beginners to extreme steep comp truck only roads. With famous tracks like Camp road & Telecom hill etc. There are 4 major camp areas with hot showers and toilets (these are pretty basic but do the job ) that the majority use but you can camp anywhere on the property. Fires are allowed and you can collect firewood from any of the dead trees that were plentiful in and around the creek beds. There are several creeks running through the property “
In contrast to last time, they had a couple of inches of rain about a week ago and the whole park had greened up very nicely. All the dust was gone and every campsite had green grass.

A map of LCMP is below.

A quick sign-in revealed the park to be almost empty, about six other vehicles that weekend as we were now between mud bulls and Christmas. With this good news we aired down and we were off.
I had mapped out the tracks for the next two days and charged up the camera for some photos, so we got into it straight away

                        Sam’s very tidy 90 series

                        Rob’s Zook in action.

Of course we had to do this track…..

The boys deciding on lines down the hill…

                        Looking back

The little zook is very capable. Here Rob is getting some air. Check out the flex from than thin little axle.

                        Video

Sam practicing his Applo13 launches. I missed the photo a moment earlier when his front was about 4 feet in the air and he was pitching right, as I was busy thinking ohh this might not end well. But some nice wheel work on his behalf and all was good. Top driving Sam.

SEQ – Weekend at Land Cruiser Mountain Park -29th & 30th November - The Return

After a series of fun tracks we made out way over near Telecom Hill for a late lunch. Once the salad was out of the way, The vehicles lined up to contemplate….

Rob was keen to give it a try but, and successfully climbed the first part, only to see him reversing back down.
                          Video

All did not go as planned, as the recent rain had made some big wombat holes further up the track and had felled a tree across the track. So that’s as far as we were going today

So we decided to leave it to tomorrow and we would walk up and clear it if it hadn’t been done by then, we tracked further around the middle of the park. We had a look around at Cowah Falls camp area but knew there were better spots further around. Trakka Terrace and the Gums had the rest of the people camping in the park so we crossed over thee river and went further around to see a large shaded grass area completely free on the other bank. A further recce proved it to be the choice spot for the night. So it was claimed in the name of Pradopoint and little Zook.

A quick set up of swags and tents

While Matt and Rob kicked back , Sam and myself went to cut up some dead firewood ( I couldn’t find my hockey mask sorry Matt) with the chainsaw we noticed up the hill and in the creek bed. Elephant sufficiency was collected for a nice big fire that evening. Sam did his gym workout by getting on the log splitter and we were all sorted for the night.
Speaking of the creek bed, it had lots of little nooks and crevices all though it with dead wood. I was thinking something would love to live down here… How true that turned out to be……

Time to kick back for a cold beer or three

In episode 1 you may remember the cheeky magpie that stole the sausage straight off the hotplate while cooking. Well true to form he was back. No less than 5-10 times did he swoop to try and steal the food being prepared and cooked. He had done this before, many times by the looks…

He was particularly interested in my teriyaki beef, maybe not so much in the cous cous and salad though!

Matt showed his pyrotechnic skills and started a raging fire quick smart.

SEQ – Weekend at Land Cruiser Mountain Park -29th & 30th November - The Return

Always good to check out the lights at camp.

Much discussion was had late into the night over many beers, when from the creek bed came forth a growling and grunting noise that seemed to be a cross of a feral pig and a large lizard. I will hence forth call him "PigLizzard". This caused some concern in camp, for some more than others as we all pointed out Matts tent was indeed closest to PigLizard's nest, so we would be at least be alerted if PigLizzard decided to come forth. We planned to hang some meat products off Matts tent to make sure he stopped there first, thereby giving us time to get into the Prados. That evening PigLizzard made his presence known he was not far away. Sam at one point got his torch and went to look..
A brave man indeed and he should know better the first guy in the movie is always the sacrificial lamp and never makes it.....Obviously PigLizzard was busy chewing on some thing else though...
We never saw Piglizard that night , he was obviously scared away by the snoring coming from Matts tent!.

Early morning we awoke to another brilliant sunny day, and it was time for a cook up of bacon and egg rolls, with some cleanskin cold pressed coffee I picked up a few days earlier..
Word had got around last night and Mr Kookaburra had called in reinforcements for food snatch duty.

We packed up camp for a good solid day on the tracks. And so it continued. Matt getting muddy

We crossed over Cowah Creek and got some great shots.
