I am looking for a Head Up Display for my Japanese 1996 Prado TX Limited.

Seller says that the HUD is compatible with OBD II.....i don't know if mine came with OBD II or not?

How do I check? and if not present, can that be installed?

Would it say so on a sticker on the ecu? I recall seeing something like that before

99 onwards have OBD11 but it isn't OBD11 compliant aka no data stream , bassicly the same as the early cars but in the new plug

His isn't an Aussie Prado though. It's Japanese and he lives in Pakistan. Didn't it come in earlier in other countries?

Na the U.S. was the first to get ....
The 96 import prados didn't even have flyby wire

Yeah, that's what I thought ....i read on a website (http://www.obdii.com/connector.html) that 96 model vehicles in the US were required to be OBD II equipped. Even those mfd in late 95 also got it owing to the same requirement. I just wasn't sure if mine had one .... seems like it doesn't

Just out of interest, if it's a model built after 08/04 that means there's an OBDII port and by extension it is possible to run a scangauge?????

If you've got the 5 speed Auto then most likely your good (changed from 4 speed auto to 5 speed auto at the same time as OBDII was introduced I believe)

You can still use the GPS based HUD or one like mine which is wired into the dashboard. I did a quick tutorial in another thread recently. I can dig it up if interested.
