Whats the right thing to do? (Minor crash)

So on the weekend a guy reversed into the back of my Prado, and put a small ding in the spare tyre cover. He was there when I arrived at the car, and we exchanged details, agreeing that it probably wasn't an insurance claim.
Months ago I didn't park the car in the garage door far enough, and the door scrapped the cover, leaving a few good marks (not buff-out-able). I had a bumper repair guy give me a quote of $2-300 to repaint the entire cover, which I didn't think was worth it and I never followed up.
I presume it is plastic and isn't repairable, so I called Toyota parts at Kedron, and was quoted $695 for a new tyre cover, Holy Sh!T!!! Didn't see that coming.
I've sms'd the guy the price, but haven't heard back from him.

Is it reasonable to have the guy stump up the entire cost of a new cover, or should I be covering a couple of hundred due to the scratches (which I had chosen not to fix).

Turns out the other guy is the cousin of my wifes good friend.....

Probably the right thing is to split the cost.

What colour is it? I have a graphite one here in Canberra if you want to collect it. Only cost a bottle of Jim Beam:razz:

Hard call, throw the cover in the bin and rock out without one, and get him to buy you a carton to say sorry. Either that or source a second hand one locally and split the cost. There is probably a few laying around in garages, I know I have a silver one in perfect condition, it came off the day after we picked the car up.

I wouldn't buy a new one, there's loads of them sitting in Pradopointers garages all over the country! Name your colour in a wanted thread, I'm sure you'll get the colour you need.

He really only requires to have the old cover repaired if it would be cheaper then a new one.

Are you intending to put of road tyres on it, if so the cover won't fit, so split the difference and put
it towards a tyre?

I will give you mine if you can wait until I need new tyres. My next set of tyres will be BFG KM2 285/70/17, so I don't really have any used for my wheel cover.
It looks good without the cover and especially with bigger tyres fitted.
