I'd have to say in my experiences, that Shell would be the worst for frothing out of all the ones I've used..... Which is a shame as I don't think that was always the case..... Since owning our Prado, I've gone from starting out always using Shell and never BP to always using BP and try and avoid using Shell, even though BP is usually a few cents more.... Caltex I do use from time to time, but again, its not as good as BP Ultimate (Note: There's 2 types of BP Diesel - Truck & Ultimate, with Truck being no different to the others when it comes to frothing)

I figured there was something wrong when fuel useage worked out at 10l/100k's towing the van.
Next tank everything back to normal, can't remember what brand that one was.cheers..... Rob (macca)

I drove back from the mountains last night, hit Distance to Empty = 0 at around Penrith drove all the way to the Shire like that (around 45km). Drove up to my local BP this morning and put 141L of Ultimate Diesel in the tank and that's without letting the froth settle So, I think it's safe to say I was getting pretty close to empty.
The only reason I did this was because I had 3 screaming kids in the back after a long weekend camping in the bush (I was towing the camper trailer), and I just needed to get them home and in bed so I could crack open a James Squire and get a moments peace! I've read in a number of places that when the fuel light comes on you've got around 100km under normal conditions at the very least. I generally try to only let my tanks run to 1/4 full.Derek

It's a shame that things have come to this, but in this day and age we've got to Cover our Asses as much as possibleDerek

Wait until the pump stops, wait a minute to allow the froth to settle, if you look inside you will see the froth and the bleed hole, diesel will flow out of it a few times, when the froth settles, you will prob fit another 6-8 litres, but I think you will find 130lts is about as much as you will squeeze in with the fuel light on.
After filling just let it sit for a few minutes.

I filled today about 70km after fuel light came on. Using BP Ultimate had a lot of frothing, worst I've experienced and despite messing around trying to slowly fill could only get 115l in, normally its around 135l. Drove around the block and got another 15l in.
Good economy for me though at 10.9l/100km, which is pretty near my average after 70,000km. Not sure how people get 8l/100km, must roll down some long hills.Steve

How are you guys getting 8's etc??
Also, does anyone know how much is still in the tank when the light comes on in the 155 SWB? It's a 93lt tank from memory .....
Cheers!

Regardless of what vehicle I owned at the time,Hilux (2Ltr/3Y petrol,130ltrLR tank),80 series Deisel and now the 150 D4D I always fuelled to max capacity, more due to paranoia of not making my next destination whilst travelling long distances ( I live in Tom price) and have never experienced any fuel overflow from overheating.Fitted so far:-Toyota Alloy bar,Redarc BDCD1220 battery managment system and dual power outlet, tracklander full length rack and ladder,Milford cargo barrier,Kaon transmission guard, UVP& Lower Shock mount Guards,Dobinson/Bilstein suspension,Toyota Bonnet and headlight guards,39ltr engel and an opposite lock stubby holder (from the old '80' series),Polyair Airbags,Pradopoint sticker,Gonefishin' custom Sidesteps.
