  • Wanna go on a day trip or overnighter near sydney

Gday all, Im new to pradopoint and new to the 4wd scene. Ive got a stock 03 prado KZJ120R. I wanted to take it light 4wding with the missus and a mate or 2. None of us have been 4wding b4 and just wanted to know any light to moderate tracks or fire trails we can hit up and have lunch or whatever. Any replies would be great.. cheers fellas!

Welcome and glad to see you are wanting to get out and about. Plenty of places you could go in a stock Prado

I'd suggest getting a copy of this book: http://www.boilingbilly.net.au/book/...4-Spiral-Bound
Has everything from light firetrails around Sydney that you could do in stock 2WD that have great lunchspots up to slightly harder treks.

And its also worth taking a look over on 4x4 Earth Tracks database which has maps and track rating system: http://www.4x4earth.com.au/tracks.html

Keep an eye on the NSW next day out thread too: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...W-next-day-out

A relativley easy but rewarding place to start is a trip out to Lost City /Glow worm tunnel behind Lithgow. If you are new to it all, I'd proably give the Lost City track a miss unless its dry or hasn't been raining recently unless you are prepared - Glowworm tunnel Road is an easy 2wd Firetrail. Haven't been there for about year though so don't know what the track is like

      G'day Ammarg,

I reckon that the best place you can start is here with Pradopoint trips (though they seem to have dried up a bit lately, everyone must be ridiculously busy like I have been for a while!) or with a 4WD club so you can learn the proper skills and more importantly just what even a stock Prado is capable of (you would be surprised where they can go!).

For trips the "4WD treks close to Sydney" that r4ndll mentioned is a great book for ideas, as are the HEMA maps as they generally differentiate quite well between the easy dirt roads and the more difficult roads on their maps.

The Newnes area has a good mix of trails and is often a good place to start, it's late notice but if you're keen for a trip out that way tomorrow (Sunday) to get started I'm free, just drop us a PM.

      Cheers.
