How about this? Any switch blanks in the area? Size might fit 120 blanks only though. http://www.tallonsystems.com/product...ket_usb_truck/

That's the best one I've seen. Wish I had found that earlier before clicking 'buy now' last night on the Narva one. 3amps would be much better to charge and not just maintain.

Awesome links to removing dash. Thanks everyone. Also thanks to the original posters for their detailed pics and instruction. They make my post on how to do stuff pale into insignificance.

                Hi Andrew,
So you have the narva socket. Does it charge the iPad while the iPad is running or just maintain. In my case it will be running the hema app, so on constantly.

There's also this type but I'm sure I've seen them cheaper http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...925591&alt=web

We normally charge the IPad we use for navigation through an adaptor in the front ciggy lighter and that certainly will add charge while its in use.

I might have to ask my son about the Narva ones as they are in the rear and it would be his IPad that mostly gets charged from it. As a test, remembering that I have 2 x 2 outlet Narva plugs, I plugged 2 IPad's into one, an I phone and a Kindle into the second one and they all seemed to charge fine, admittedly it wasn't a long term test only 5 minutes or so.

My Ipad is fully charged at the moment but I will run it down a bit and give it a test.

                    Cheers Andrew

OK so I just did a test, left the IPad on and let it go down to 95%, went out and plugged it into the Narva charger with it running and thought I would check every 10 minutes to see if it was going up in charge, after 10 minutes it was at 100%, so no problems running and charging at the same time.

In my experience with charging I things, the cord is as or more important than anything, the missus bought some cheap Ebay ones and they were useless, the genuine apple ones work much better.

                      Cheers Andrew

Yes, similar to dual battery wiring. The thinner cheapy cables won't be able to supply the correct amount of current draw for the likes of tablets and newer smartphones. There are apps that can measure charge current draw so you can quickly determine whether the cheapy cable is up to the job or not.

Wrestle in fingers around it and pull outwards. Failing that... Credit card but you may bend the card... Failing that... Trim removal tools, you can get them from jaycar or auto stores and are worth there wait in gold.

I use a kitchen spatula (plastic) for trim removal, works a treat.

Having the socket on the flat top of dash would be ok. I don't tbink the Narva socket will arrive in time for a weekend install which is ok I guess as I have the light bar on the to-do list.

I will post pics etc when it's done.
Thanks for all the tips and links to 'how to' posts
