  • Runva 11XP winch on ARB Deluxe winch bar

    Hi All,

Just about to mount my Runva 11XP on my ARB Deluxe Winch bar and wanted to know how people are mounting their isolation switch/control box?

I know some have used a different isolation switch all together but I wanted to stick with the Runva 'remote' enabled isolation switch.

I have an old Tigerz isolation switch from my last winch which I am using the longer cables from and bar mount but can't figure out how to mount the Runva isolation switch to this bar mount... (The Runva 11XP only comes with the bracket to mount the isolation switch directly on top of the winch)

    Thanks,
    Jamie

Hello Jamie, included in the kit should be a black steel bracket. It is about 50mm wide flat metal bent backwards at about 30 degrees with 2 holes on one side and 2 elongated holes on the other. I mounted it on the top of the bullbar. There are two holes already drilled in the bullbar. I had to drill a new one in front of the two holes so that the control box cleared the bonnet when it opened.

    Regards

Hi Jamie. I have the same winch/bar combo, and mounted it the same as 05oiler. One thing i would recomend you do when mounting to the black bracket, is put 1/4"gutter bolts right thru the control box(need to remove cover on box to do this). All was well with the original little screw in bolts, until between Padurka, and Dalhuosy springs , little bolts vibrated out, and control box rubbed a half moon shape, about 130mm long, right thru the paint to bare metal. Solid bolts have fixed the problem.

Runva 11XP winch on ARB Deluxe winch bar

Hi , has anyone mounted the control box for this winch behind the deluxe bar so it's out of sight? I haven't run a winch before so please learn me but just looking and have seen at 11000lbs line pull this draws 540 amps. Has this current draw been an issue for anyone with dual batteries?i know everything is circumstantial but is this current draw only when line is fully extended. Not sure as I'm not familiar with using winches.
        Cheers Matt

Thanks gents, looks like that mount was missing from my kit (weird as I had a new, sealed unopened box).

Drilled a few holes in the control box base and mounted the mount using bolts and lock nuts.

          Now to mount the winch..

I have exactly the same winch, exactly the same bar, and now exactly the same problem.

The little bracket that came with the control box is really odd. I do not see how it could be used to mount the control box onto the bull bar.
Are you basically saying that I should take the cover off the control box, then drill a new hole and bolt it directly to the black bracket?

Did you rotate the gearbox before installing the winch?

I had ARB bolt up the Rubnva 11xp but they refused to actually wire up the winch for me because it wasnt a warn product. They bolted it on but i need to unbolt it if i want to rotate the gearbox and i'm not really sure if i need to remove the bar to remove the winch.

I guess it isnt a huge hassle to open the bonnet to operate the clutch lever....

You'd think they would have at least rotated it for you

Hello Speed_racer, there are instructions on the Runva website regarding rotating the gearbox. it's not difficult but you will have to remove the winch to do so. There is a limit to how far the gearbox can be rotated because of the shape of the housing. I set mine at the top. I would have thought ARB would have done it seeing you paid them to fit it. It could be worth taking it back to them to do it properly. As for not connecting it up, what a joke. The winch is held in by 4 bolts and can be accessed at the front. 2 on the Fairlead and and 2 above. Did you get an "offset" Fairlead?. There are captive nuts slotted into the winch. You will have to take the bash plate off to give you access. It looks like the winch will come out the bottom but it doesn't' it will come out the top once you undo the Airconditioning line brackets and gently push them aside. I recommend you have someone help you unless you have three hands. It can be done, I had to. As for wiring it up, again the website has details. Just connect to your battery, black to black, red to red.
I just had a look at my bracket for the Control Box. My apologies, It has 2 elongated holes on one side and 1 long cutout on the other. The Control box is fitted to the side with the 2 elongated holes. There are two screw threads on the bottom of the control box. Although I do like the idea of fixing these more solidly. Another job to do. I needed to drill another hole in the bullbar closer to the front of the bullbar to get enough clearance for the cables and the control box to open the bonnet. It is still a pain to open the bonnet. The control box ends up angled from back downwards to the front and the front edge of the control box lines up with the very front edge of the bullbar. I hope this helps.

                  Regards

When I did mine, I found that the casting was just a tad in the road to rotate as far as I wanted to. I got a hacksaw, and cut a tiny bit of casting away, to allow rotation to where I needed it. The cut-out in bullbar is fairly close to the lever, but there is enough room to use the release lever. I will take a photo of my bracket mount, and post later, as I don't have any problem opening the bonnet.

Thanks for your help guys. As for ARB not doing the work this was agreed upon beforehand because apparently it is their policy not to wire up any winch that isnt a warn. I even offered to pay them to do it and they wouldnt which i found confusing.

In any case, I removed the front plate under the deluxe bar, and with a lot of twisting and contorting and unbolting i did manage to rotate the housing, without actually removing the bar. I basically unbolted the winch and worked on it whilst it was in the cavity. So now the lever is in the right spot and I am pretty happy with that.

Now i have mounted the control box but i rotated it 90 degrees. Initially i thought this would look funny but its OK , and it means that the wires to the control box go straight down into the hole of the bar. . ( I'll try to take a picture but basically there is very little wire showing above the bar.

I think i am fairly happy with that. I would have wanted to wire it up somewhere inside the engine bay, but honestly cant be bothered getting all new wires and redoing it all again.

Now i just need to get out there and use it!

                          Brand protection I would think.

                          Have fun testing it out!
