My rear OME sports shocks have just about had it after 65000 km and one has just started leaking. I have been pleased with their functioning but the ride has been getting harsher as they age. Has anyone made the switch from the OMEs to Billies? At only about $40 ish extra per shock I am thinking of them as real alternative. Springs are OME medium duty +40mm . Any comments especially about the ride of the 2 brands?

On m second set of billies in this car. Was doing a big trip so changed them out, didn't need to but good insurance.
My previous 120 had OME and changed them for billies.

Theoretically, Bilsteins are a digressive valved shock, where OME and most twin tube shocks are progressively valved What this means is that Bilsteins feel firmer at slower speeds, however offer a softer or floatier ride at faster speeds. Rogressive valued shocks offer less valvng initially and therefore tend to be softer at slower speeds (around town) and firmer at faster speeds on the highway, sometimes to the point where it can be harsh. There are plenty of videos on Google and graphs that explain this far better than I can. This does not mean the faster the car is going, but the faster the shock stroke is is moving.
This also means that the Bulsteins should offer more control as the initial valving controls the spring much quicker, and the Bilstein should offer less body roll, because of that firmer initial valvng.

From OME to Billie much different. The Billie's had a lot more rebound control. This became evident on my first 120 when on the same stretch of dirt road near Biggenden across a concrete causeway the front would become airborne with the OME but when the Billies installed I could not get it off the ground.

Update......replaced the rears with the same shock ie. OME Nitrocharger Sport 60004. at $170 each Result? The harshness mentioned above has gone and the ride has improved again. It is very firm but not harsh like it was. One of the old shocks was leaking and compressed ok but was totally unable to extend itself back out again. The other one was fine and will make a good spare.
