I for one use my headlights (or Parkers and lower bullbar driving lights during the day on longer drives. I also ride a motorbike to and from work some weeks (300k each way) and the lights are always on. Honestly I think it's a handy thing to do however have noticed on my bike no bastard ever really pays attention when pulling out I'm not sure if they think smaller object going slower? But Jesus the amount of cars I've had pull out on the highway from side streets is unbelievable. Never had this in the Prado. So yep think they are good.

Cars pulling out in front of bikes is par for the course, it happens almost every time I ride!

Its been law that headlights must come on with the ignition on bikes for years, maybe we should do the same with cars

      Cheers Andrew

I used to ride bikes myself. The biggest issue is if the driver has no experience with riding a bike. They have no awareness about where a bike might be on the road and where to look as they have never been in that situation or had bike training.

One good thing about having a bike license (never ride anyone) is I can pre-empt what the rider will do most of the time and I can position myself on the road better for them. Usually a rider can also tell if the driver has bike experience or acknowledge that they can see them.

Its a nice feeling when you get the low key thank-you had gesture when they ride past.

Actually bushbasher every time I've had this happened I haven't. To many bloody cops wanting to take ur money! So nope that's out of the equation. See I'm used to it and pre empt that the cars are going to do it. 9/10 they do. Still shake my head at them and swear because one day that could be some poor sob that hasn't pre empted and they get cleaned up

What's that got to do with it? It's down to pure fact that drivers aren't paying attention. Regardless of speeding or not, it's infact the drivers fault not the rider. The driver has pulled out into a traffic flow with out paying enough attention.

So what you're saying is that if the bike is speeding you can pull out in front of him and maybe kill him and it's ok?

My God. First world problems! Those whinging about their lights being on at daytime need a reality check. I'm all for it - too many people drive with their heads up their own backsides at the best of times - how can making vehicles more visible be a bad thing?

As for the other comments - in particularly the more recent ones about motor bikes... no wonder people think that driver's of 4WD's are arrogant and think they own the road. Regardless of who is at fault we should be looking out for each other on the road showing patience and courtesy to each other. The road is there to share.

Actually I don't have a problem with a bike speeding up and overtaking. I have a problem with a bike lane splitting then cutting back into my lane and expecting me to drop back for him. I also have a problem with bikes revving to ensure I hear/notice them when they're lane splitting. I usually acknowledge this with my horn.

                                Hmmm.......

I've said this to many people before, but usually it's the old cyclist vs motorist argument. Ride like you would like someone to ride if you were driving, drive like you would like someone to drive if you were riding. A little bit of common courtesy goes a long way, and it is a two way street!!!
