Well lucky it's legal for us motorcyclists to do then eh 😎. Seriously I'm glad these new laws have been passed I'm always bloody scared about some cager texting coming up to a set of lights and cleaning me up. Now this way I can always position myself to have a better chance of not if that ever happens. In the end it looks like you have your set ways and The motorcycling community will continue to do what we do. And the fact it's legal to do so now just reinforces it.

As a truck driver during the day and a Motorcyclist on the weekends and a 4wdriver at other times, I can honestly say I am far more worried about what 4wdrivers do on the road than motorcyclists..........

Actually it is not legal in VIC at all, and in NSW and QLD it is only legal below 30 km/h. My example is when driving 60km/h to 100km/h.

I've said this to many people before, but usually it's the old cyclist vs motorist argument. Ride like you would like someone to ride if you were driving, drive like you would like someone to drive if you were riding. A little bit of common courtesy goes a long way, and it is a two way street!!!

Great comment and I totally agree it.

+1 yes , you can always tell who is a motorcyclist by their attitude to sharing the road,
the response from others makes their arrogant attitude clear !

Courtesy and safety... two commodities in driving that seem rare nowadays. It seems many just feel that since others breach the road rules then it is also okay for them to do so (two wrongs don't make a right) resulting in the overall driving standards being falling to the lowest common denominator.

It amazes me how many drivers (and riders) will risk their own (and others) safety just out of spite or annoyance. One of the dumbest examples is when during peak traffic conditions, some lunatic drivers will accelerate hard before madly cutting in front of you only to then jam on their brakes because of cars ahead - all to achieve just one position ahead in the traffic flow. And as for merging, especially at roadworks were lanes are blocked, why people can't simply use the logic of left/right/left/right rather than being ar$ho!es and preventing cars from merging thus slowing down the whole traffic flow. Rant over - feeling better.

Oh yeah, let's have 2 road rules for merging, one rule for a road with a broken line and another rule for a road with no line. That'll really confuse them

honestly if someone's doing it at those speeds they are a dickhead. The times I lane split/ filter are at the lights. Seen it on the m1 last week during peak hour and even then they wouldn't have been able to do over 40 safely.

I don't mind lane splitting at the lights just not on a freeway. Too dangerous for the bike rider.
I see stupid idiots on the road all day and night. In or on every size of vehicle.

Agreed, but they still do it day in and day out on the Tulla freeway.

I've personally witnessed a bike rider become a speed bump under a truck trailer as he was trying to lane split near the Ring Rd entrance to the Tulla freeway outbound. You can guess who won that adventure.

As a professional driver who spends his working week on the road in control of up to 85.7 tonnes of vehicle at 36 metres in length (double road train, which by law in SA must have headlights on during the day), I pride myself on driving to the conditions and being aware of what is happening around me. Whilst I can usually identify oncoming traffic well before it is in the danger zone the worrying factor is the idiot behind me (every other driver is an idiot until proven otherwise) who may not see the dark grey/blue/green or black car coming towards us and attempt to overtake me causing an extremely dangerous situation.
From my point of view those who use DRLs or headlights during the day are definitely easier to pick coming towards me from both directions and hopefully the idiots will see each other before one of them does something that may not end well.

Lights on. Enough said. I'm boiling away under the surface regarding the bike comments from the ignorant but will refrain from commenting on that.
