Finally have some time to get a few more things done to my Prado. First on the list was to replace the D4DTurbo decals on the sides as they were looking a bit faded.
Took awhile and a fair amount of elbow grease to get the old one's off, but the new one's look the goods!

The next on the list was to add some extra usb charging points on the dash for the iPad and gps. I found some that are the right size to fit straight into the original dash spaces. While I was at it I bought a dual battery meter and fitted that in as well :-)

The last thing I did this weekend was to remove the box I had made to hold the rear fuse box, 12v plugs and switches for the compressor and work light that I had made when I made the rear drawer. I'd never been really happy with the way it looked, so I tidied all the wiring up and installed it in the passenger storage box.

I mounted the rear work light and compressor switches inside the box as in the past I have accidentally turned them on when loading gear in the back.

Had a big day today giving the Prado a bit of a face lift. For awhile I've been keen to get a winch, but the bullbar I had was a non winch bar.
After scouring gumtree for for a couple of months I finally hit the jackpot in December when I picked up a near new ARB winch bar that had been returned to the dealer as the paint work wasn't up to scratch. I got it for $650, which included all of the parts, bolts and instructions :-).

Next on the list was a 22 inch light bar from Stedi for $150, and of course a winch, I bought a DominatorX for $395. So got a pretty good setup for about $1200.

I started off removing the original bar, which was pretty straight forward.

        Off with the old.

I swapped over the crash cans which the dealer I bought the bar from suggested, and on inspection they were slightly different to the original ones.
The brackets which attach the bar to the chassis were the same, so I left them on. However after I had removed the crash cans I was looking at the bolts holding the bracket to the chassis and noticed that one wasn't screwed all the way in. Like, I could actually spin the washers!

My first thought was that the thread had been stripped and that was as far in as it would go. I un-screwed it, checked the thread which was fine and screwed it back in all the way.

I then checked the other bolts and found them all to be lose, I was able to get between one and two full rotations before they were tight.
After I had put the new bar on I went over all the bolts with the torque wrench and nipped them up to the correct settings.

While I was at it I cut some more out of the plastic bumper as it had been rubbing on the back of one of the indicators and cut the wire through.

Finally got it all mounted up, just need to hook up the wiring harness in the morning for the light bar.

Having wired up the light bar, I decided that some new switches were required. I went with the carling type rocker switch and while I was at it bought an isolation switch for the winch and a winch in/out switch.
The next problem was where to mount them? I looked at a couple of locations on and under the dash, then looked at the storage box under the radio.
Seeing as we only use it to keep spare change I took to pulling it out and modifying it.

The first step was to use a hole drill to allow for cable access from under the dash.

Next up was to mount the switches, when I bought them, I also bought a five switch block to mount them in.

I attached aluminium right angle inside of the storage box, cut out a piece of aluminium plate, gave it a lick of paint and mounted my switches in :-)
So now when not in use the dash looks normal until I need to access my switches :-)

Hey Mark, where did you get the new fascia for the panel that holds the High and Low and Diff button? I want to be able to have a volt meter an red arc control as two separate buttons there, but the stock panel comes with one larger insert.

                Thanks in advance,
                Ben

                  Hi Ben,

That is the panel that was in mine when I bought it, assuming it is the standard panel/facia.
It had the centre diff button and three blanks in it. Mines a GX is yours?

What part of Perth are you in mate?

                  Cheers,
                  Mark

                    Hi Mark,

Mine is a GXL, that might explain why mines is a bit different at that panel. Thanks though.
I am generally around the Mount Lawley region.

Just picked up an ARB bar to replace my Genuine Toyota, so this thread has also proven useful for that! Just need to track down some fitting instructions....

                    Cheers,
                    Ben

Hey Ben, I imagine the GX/GXL difference will be the issue with the panel.

I had all of the ARB bar fitting instructions but gave them to the bloke who bought my old bar.
                      I'm near Bibra Lake.

                      Cheers,

                      Mark

Hi Mark, you wouldnt happen to have the template still? I know there are electronic versions kicking about which you can print off and tape together to create the template?

                        Cheers

Been a little while since I posted any updates.
So since my last post I've added an AM/FM antenna to the bull bar to improve reception when away from towns and a new UHF antenna, now also on the bar.

Also, yesterday I pulled apart the EGR valve and gave it a clean, not a job I want to have to again in a hurry!. The blanking plate with a 7mm hole arrived today, so will install that next weekend and then I plan on having the ECU remapped

Great rig Mark lots of work gone in to it but she looks fantastic. The new bar, winch and light bar really set it off.
