  • Lights on when switch says off

    Hi everyone,

In my 2014 GXL when the switch says off the head lights are on and the screen bright.
When on the dot the DRL's are on and the screen is not as bright
And when on the proper on position the same headlights that are on in the off position are on, the only difference is that the screen is much darker.

    Is this normal?
It doesn't annoy me too much but when other people drive it especially my mum and sees that there are lights on she doesn't think to change it even though the screen is extremely bright and distracting.

I am happy to change wiring my-self but am a Noob and would need a very in depth guide.

    Thanks,
    Radloose

I didn't follow you 100% and am not sure if it's the same on the facelift model but previous models had a "dimmer" dial to the RHS of the steering wheel - if that's turned fully 1 way, the stereo and all the dash lighting will be in daytime mode even though you have your lights on.

The lights are always on. In the day the screen is bright so you can see it. At night when you turn the switch to on it dims the screen and turns on all the other dash lights in green.

        Howzit,

I picked up my 2014 GXL a few days ago and I am equally perplexed by this - cannot figure out the logic .... it's one of those things that isn't really a big deal in the grander scheme of things but it still bothers me nonetheless ! Hoping that someone brighter can shed some light?

It's Toyota's idea of daytime running lights on the GXL and probably GX. Some say it was implemented because of ADR requirements which are not actually in place. I agree it is annoying. Hopefully some bright auto electrician on the forum will post instructions on a simple way to bypass it.

Butters, There's a switch that adjusts speedo and tacho light when on night lights, if that's what you mean
