So Im due for some new shoes, and Im almost settled on BFG muddies (AT if the wife forces me)
or mickey T muddies. amusing I go for 265/70/17

I know that some people have gone to 285 with "some rubbing" at full lock im just wondering how much, and if this severly changes performance ride etc or is it only going to happen at low speed when doing a 3 point turn (I can live with that)
my lift is still sitting quite high and there is plenty of room under the arches.

otherwise ill just go for the 265/70/17

thanks, any photos would be great to put in perspective.

I will be going for the Mickey Thompsom ATZ P3 for the next set as they seem to be a good mix between AT & MT. Have a friend who has them on his Amorok and loves them. He previously had a set on town tyres and a set of MT to go out and play on. Now only runs the Mickey Thompsons.

I'm running the Mickey T ATZ P3 285's and they rub, but not huge amounts. I only notice it at lower speeds. Sounded worse until I trimmed the front mud flaps. It doesn't seem to bother the tyres much and it doesn't bother my driving.

No pics of wheels turned though.

I've got the P3s in 265/70/17 and love them!!

Held up well on my Cape trip and very little signs of wear.

If you are going to run 285's you need to change either your wheel offset or your Upper control arms or they will rub on the UCA's.

          Cheers Andrew

              Sorry, forgot to mention that.
I've done both UCA's and different offset.

I reckon ET20 would be the minimum, hard to find that offset in an alloy, reasonably easy to find in steelies.

                Cheers Andrew

I'm guessing this essentially means the wheels protrude buy a value "10" away from the UCA, I did get quoted ET20 for the Gecko Steelies, so they might work.

Yep 10mm further out, 285's are 20mm wider so half that extra goes inward and half outwards, so theoretically clearance to he UCA'S should remain the same.

                    Cheers Andrew

Expect some rubbing on the mudflaps and maybe a few other spots. Your Speedo will be reading slow so make sure you adjust for that. Your overall gearing will be higher, whether its enough to cause driveability issues for you is something to consider.

Other than that if you want them go for it

Check with your insurance company to see if they will cover you with oversize tyres.

Also there are many articles about why skinny tyres are better offroad than wider tyres.

Thanks mate, I appreciate it, Ive been reading some of the other threads and seeing there is only 12mm in height to be gained im thinking of sticking with BFG AT's at 265 70, boring I know but they are out of stock of KM2's and I think I'll leave bigger wheels for when I get new rims down the track, I figured I was only getting cheapies to sustain the 285. when Id rather get something nice. Its not like the AT are bad tyre..

I ordered new boots today to get put on next Friday.
                              Can't get the BFG KM2's I wanted.
I was standing next to the guy as he rang Michelin up and could hear the bird he was talking to. She didn't give a toss and basically told him to call back in three months.
Ended up going with Dick Cepek Mud Country in a 265/70/17.
Apparently made in the same factory as MTZ and Coopers. Same size as the MTZ too, 810mm vs the 804mm of the BFG tyres. 5x $365 = ouch but I can't wait
