  • New Prado 150 specific Bilstien shocks for the rear

I recently purchased Bilstien shocks and King springs from wholesale suspensions. From the wealth of information on this forum I was expecting to get Bilstien part BE5-A712 at the front and BE5-A713 at the rear. When I placed the order I was advised that there is now a new Prado 150 rear shock part number Be5-A715. I have these and the label on the box for the rears does say Prado 150.

I have done a search of this forum and no one has mentioned the BE5-A715 part number, I was wondering if anyone else has purchased these and if anyone knows of the differences between the BE5-A713 and BE5-A715.

For interest I have purchased King KTFR-101T comfort taper springs for the front and progressive rears, King KTRR-102. I also purchased Firestone airbags for when I have a load or towing. Alloy bar at the front, rear sometimes empty or fridge, drawers and battery. It is a 5 seat GX.

This is the first time I have heard of that part number and there doesn't appear to be any Google hits on it either.

I have started fitting these shocks, compared to the factory ones they are about 20mm longer open and about 8mm longer closed.
Looking up the suspension data base they are very similar to Bilstein B46-1478.

I was in contact with Bilstein a few months ago regarding a new part number for the 150 and they confirmed this is the case. This is the reply I received:

        HI Russell,

We do have a new part number 24-238830 it is 12mm longer than BE5 A713 with a revised rate for improved load carrying. The top pin doesn’t come with top rubber bushings as they are designed to go into the original Toyota type which are more robust than some of the after-market rubbers. Some of our distributors are using adaptations of 80 series Landcruiser rears that are longer again; care needs to be taken that their extended length does not exceed free height of coils.

        Regards,
A further email from them stated the 24-238830 is 592mm extended and "approximately" 375mm closed (he didn't have exact figures for closed length).

This is within 3mm of my rough measurements, thanks :-)

Sorry guys, i have been a bit slack.
The A715 is the brand new number Bilstein have just released as a 150 Series specific rear shock.
It does offer a little more droop over the A713, which was a little short to maximise travel on the 150's.
It comes with a crush tube installed over the top pin & you must reuse the OE Toyota top bushes on it.

              Regards, Jason.
