    Hello guys,
I have just returned from a VIC high country trip with mate using Hema. A few times we could not find tracks that were showing on Hema then doubled checked the Roof Top hard copy map. Roof Top was very accurate, Hema was crap.

A few months ago I did a big desert trip using the budget version of Hema called Memory maps. The missing track caused us to end up many Kms of the planned destination. I would like to find someone with Mad Maps to see if these track errors are based on the digital data in general.

Rooftop maps are excellent for Vic, they even have single track (for dirt bikes) marked. I would love a digi version for GPS!

SD Card upgrade to 200GB for VMS 700HDX portable unit

In case someone has this unit and needs more space for maps the VMS folks in Melbourne has recently upgraded my 32GB card which came with the VMS T700HD unit to a SanDisk Ultra 200GB microSD card.

200GB card works well and now I have plenty of storage space for additional maps.

Other upside is that I can insert this card into the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 (to move maps) which has GlobalSat BU-353 S4 USB GPS connected when needed. Surface Pro 4 also works very well with the GPS.

VMS Touring 500 GPS Off Road Navigation device upgrade up to 32GB is possible

In case someone has this older VMS Touring 500 unit and needs more space, while upgrading my VMS 700HDX portable unit from 32GB to 200GB, VMS staff informed me that they can also upgrade the older VMS Touring 500 from its 8GB card to 32GB size (maximum size VMS500 Touring GPS will read/accept).

While there I had my old 500 unit (bought in 2010) screen repaired. VMS500 will now serve as my 2nd GPS (will keep it zoomed out for orientation on a large scale map while VMS700 will serve as zoomed in/show on detailed map where I am unit).

          VMS500Touring screen replacement was $90.
VMS700HDX Touring 32GB microSD card upgrade to 200GB microSD card was $50.

I bought my own SanDisk Ultra 200GB microSD card. This was a first for VMS as they never upgraded anyone to a card larger than 64GB so they were also interested to see if the larger card will work/read in their VMS700HDX unit. Test passed!!

            Thanks for the info.
What did they charge for the upgrade?

VMS700HDX Touring 32GB microSD card upgrade to 200GB microSD card was $50.

I brought my own microSD card (SanDisk Ultra 200GB) as the largest card VMS stock is 64GB.

Couldn't you just upload the old card to the new card? Would have thought that was all that w as required? I might be wrong though. Cheers Brian

I understand that it is impossible to copy the street mapping files to a larger card due to the copy protection feature. VMS can only reissue all the mapping on a larger card that has been licenced with a new licence. This licensing is the main cost component of the card.

However, in my case VMS took my old card back, recopied from the master file and reapplied the original licence so they can reissue it to another user. It allows me to have both street mapping and off-road on a larger card for lower cost.
