  • Buying Bulbs from Powerbulbs

    Hi All,

I was looking at buying some new globes online from a company called powerbulbs, has any one had any experience dealing with these guys? the reviews i have read seem positive.
They are based in the UK but ship free to Australia.

I was looking at getting the OSRAM Night Breaker Unlimited Globes (H4) 12v 60/55w upto 4000K, 1650 Lumons, 110% more light over standard light globe and apparently up-to 40 meters longer light.
I was also going to upgrade the fog lights to the OSRAM Night Breaker Unlimited Globes (HB4) 12v 51w same details as above except 1095 Lumons.

As the Prado is actually my wifes car which i'm allowed to drive on weekends...... I cant check the manual and from what i have read online these should be the correct globes for the car, i must be honest i don't know how the Voltage or Wattage figures compare to the terrible factory globes and or the output limits etc.

Basically i'm looking for reassurance that i wont be placing additional load or doing something that's going to get me into trouble with the missus.... again.

As these are a white globe will i have issues with glare?

Appreciate your advise and help - globes i really know nothing about them

    Cheers

Just bought a set of those exact globes from that same mob. You've got the right wattage/voltage/fitting.

By all accounts on this forum, and I spent a bit of time yesterday scouring the threads for the right info, these lights will suit. Couple of the lads mentioned they might blow out sooner, but that could always be down to any number of factors and not the bulbs in particular.

Not sure about the foggies, sorry.

I used Philips X-treme Vision 80% and it has not blown on me for the last 4 years. I too bought from powerbulbs. It costs £22.49 for a pair back in 2010.

I bought OSRAM nightbreakers for my 150 - refer to my previous posts.

Yes, positive dealings with the vendor. First set blew in 12 months - on the second set now.

To be fair, headlights were previously wired to ignition on so it more that would have decreased their lifespan.

Also - common complaint of high output globes is shorted lifespan

Yes have purchased from them also, ok to deal with.

Globe life span, simple fact is standard bulbs aren't as bright for a reason, that is
lifespan! The brighter the bulb the shorter the life.

So what would be everyone's recommendations for a globe which will:

            1) Improve the light output significantly over the standard globes
            2) Durable

These globes I'm considering state 110% more light would i be better off looking at something that offers 90% more light? or am i better off to not worry and over think it?

You should buy both the Philips and OSRAM nightbreakers - cos I want to know which is brighter

Don't over think it - they are a fairly cheap "consumable". I would rather high output shorter life than long life less output, isn't safety they key objective?

I'm running OSRAM nightbreakers in my lowbeams and they are a massive improvement over stock.

This is very true safety is important, i find with the standard H4 globes we currently have there is minimal difference between Low and High-beams.
I'll order the OSRAM nighbreakers tonight they state shipping between 2-7 days, all the product reviews i have read on powerbulbs website and the whirlpool forums have been nothing but positive

Shodown i will post a picture of the standard vs the OSRAMS when i fit them - that's the best i can do!!

                  Cheers

I bought the OSRAMs purely because I could get both low and high beam delivered from UK cheaper that a set of just low beam in Perth. They even threw in a set of LED parks so I wasnt stuck with a mix of yellow / white.

I recently upgraded to Phillips X-Treme (both Low Beam and Hi Beam) buying from Blingwork Automotive in Australia (http://www.blingworkauto.com.au/), although I went through their E-Bay store (http://www.ebay.com.au/usr/blingwork...otive_lighting). About $60 a pair with free delivery. Service was really good and delivery very quick. I know a little cheaper from OS, but I was impatient ... and wasn't enough of a difference to worry about OS delivery/damage etc. They sell the Osram's as well.

                        Much brighter than OEM globes.

Well I've installed the globes and I'm really impressed!!! I knew the standard globes were bad but seriously....

Honestly can't believe the improvement from such a simple upgrade, I didn't get the replacement fog light globes, in hindsight I should of the light difference between the headlights and the fog lights is noticeable but as I don't drive with them on unless on a dark country rd I can live with it until I need to replace the bulbs.

Sorry I didn't take any pics I was too excited something arrived in the post and it wasn't a speeding fine or another bill. I'll try later in the week
