Its funny how we have all got different experiences with tyres. I will never by Coopers again ever, unless they give me an iron glad guarantee of my money back when they start sliding on wet cold wet roads, typically after 12-18month.

Liked BFG A/T, but found the D697 the best all round tyre, better in the mud and on road manners, like braking and grip dry and wet. Cannot comment on sidewalls damage but that can happen to all of them in the right or wrong circumstances.
stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats. Sidewinder`s Dual Battery isolator and rear power outlet kit. Pirana Battery tray, Hayman Reese towbar with Toyota wiring kit and Brains`s guard.

Apparently yes, I don't want to highjack this thread but i've uploaded a few photos here if you want to check it out:

It's an interesting topic, however I reckon the pressure is about right. 40 PSI makes the Prado's VSC kick in constantly on corners i found. They're such a stiff tyre and i live out on a farm so i prefer them to be down a bit anyway. Coopers actually recommended 30 PSI and the coopers sales rep said 32 was too high resulting in them wearing unevenly!

Just for the record not sure if i'd buy coopers again either. What I am really keen on is Hancook Dynapro Mud Terrains for $280 a tyre in 285/70/17 you can't complain. We use them on nearly ever landcruiser on-site at a gold mine i work at and they are punished pretty hard! Problem is there is quite a shortage on them at the moment in that size.

        Now for something completely different...
I am on my second set of Pirelli ATRs. Having got over 80k from the first set, quiet and very responsive on and off road. I have been amazed at the grip off road.
I stopped using BFG ATs as they lost traction in the wet when past 2/3 worn. Could get very scarry. (but great in the loose stuff)
Now, the ATRs do have their limits, a deep bog hole did embarrass me a while back... but I also put part of the blame on the worn out LSD. :-)

WOW VX thats pretty bad delaminating like that. Ive only ever seen that on a tyre that was too old. I wonder if that is also an issue with some of the reports on the coopers ??
I always think of Pirelli's as a high performance tyre not a 4wd tyre. I have also heard good reports on these tyres. Are they an LT ??...Cheers Steve

Interesting thread! I just bought the new Toyo Open Country AT2's for my 2012 GX. Unfortunately, the biggest tyre you can fit on the standard rims is 245/75R17, so didn't have many options, but I am very happy with these. Admittedly, they are a little noisier than the GrandTreks, but they are far more aggressive and look pretty good too! They are a 10 Ply, so I have dropped the pressure down to 36psi to make the ride more like the GrandTreks, but they should be pretty resistant to staking. Pretty reasonably priced too at $300 a corner. Anyway, my two cents worth.

Bridgestone Dueler A/T D697 LT on mine, 65000km's and going great.. should easily get another 10000km
Very good grip on wet/dry roads, not too heavy on the fuel (average shows 9.4L, mainly highway driving), Go good for my basic 4WD needs

I'll be going another set for sure

This is the standard line from the Cooper's sales team. I've heard the same every time I've taken mine in for rotation and balance (I run my A/T3's at around 38psi, and they tell me to drop them - I think they said 34 or 32 psi last time?). I haven't decided yet if there's truth in it, or if they're just suggesting lower pressures to give better ride comfort. Anyway, I've done 50000 k's plus now at this pressure, and tyre wear is very even, so I don't plan to change.

As for dropping from 32 down to 30.. pfft. You'll get more of a change in tyre pressure due to ambient temperature change, or driving to work in the morning, so I doubt this will improve things for you.

My 120 bought second hand had original AT20's on it, around 60K, chewed through those in 6-8mths and swapped to D694's, much better in the wet and offroad, another 65K and fronts were getting low, should have had them rotated more, dealer didn't always do it and forgot to ask a few times.
Now in new 150, BFG AT's on within 250 metres driving out from the dealer, so far been good in the wet, those in Sydney will agree just how wet it's been last couple of weeks!

I have Cooper ST MAXX in 265/70/17 on my rig. Apart from the cracking around the bead in the side wall, which hasn't got any worse, they are a fantastic all round tyre. Awesome on gravel, as good as you will get in mud before you go to a full mud tyre and really good on wet bitumen. So much so that I have to really provoke the car to get the VSC to activate on wet roads. They are a bit louder on the road, but only enough that you need maybe 2 more notches on the stereo volume to make them disappear.

                          Cheers Brad
