    Hi,

i'm sure it's already posted here but buggered if I can find it.
does anyone have instructions for removing the head unit in a facelift GXL so I can wire in some more cameras ?

    Thanks in advance.

OK I've done this now. the process seems the same as the older 150s and 120s, just the pieces look different. will post some photos soon.

Dash removal - 150 GXL (facelift)

OK, the first step is to remove the 2 vertical pieces of trim either side of the storage bin and 4Hi/4Lo selector. I forgot to get a photo of these in place, but this is what it looks like with them removed (to remove them just grab them at the bottom and pull out from the dash), the red rectangles show where they were:

Next, remove the four bolts/screws, 3 shown in this picture (fourth obscured by the right hand side of the storage bin):

Now, grab the aircon controls section at both ends and pull directly out from the dash:

Do the same with the panel that houses the centre diff lock button and the Hi/Lo selector (red circles highlighting the yellow clips and the slots they clip in to):

Don't have a photo of this, but to remove the surrounds of the gear knob and hand-brake, first separate the chrome ring at the bottom of the gear knob (this is a GXL so may differ in other variants) from the gear knob with a trim removal tool, then unscrew the gear knob. Undo the press-stud on the handbrake boot. Then grip the plastic trim and pull up.

Where I put the main unit of my Redarc Tow-Pro:

So far I haven't removed the head unit, but it looks like just 2 more bolts and pulling it out. Will add photos of this when I get to it.

Well done Maulbeagle! I didn't think it would be much different to the pre-facelift models, everything just pretty much unclips or has 1 or 2 bolts or screws to undo at most. Once you've done it a few times it's easy, have pulled my console out at least 3 times now.

How is the TowPro mounted to the floor? I've just pulled mine apart and was going to install it there but can't see how you have kept it in place. In the photo it looks like it is just sitting on the black plastic stuff. On my car the black plastic stuff isn't fixed to anything much - it moves up and down.

This took a lot of bravery and reading lots of posts but it works. I was trying to pull off the smaller shiney top trim but the whole top section comes off, leaving the sides there. The back pulls straight up - I put my fingers in the handbrake hole to pull it.

from memory I used double sided tape, and it was all very snug so I wasn't worried about it.
in 6 days time it will have been there for a year and have had no issues with it.
