  • Engine won't stay running after sitting for 9 months

Hey guys, trying to get my Prado back on the road today and need some input.

    1998 3.4L V6

It hasn't been started in 9 months, I've just dropped the oil and filter and replaced it. I know that after 9 months, the remaining fuel will be stale but the catch is, when I start it, the engine runs perfectly. Goes into high idle and sits at 1,100 (normal) but when it goes to settle down, it struggles, starts missing like crazy and eventually dies. Turn the key, starts straight back up and continues all over again. It can run for about 30 seconds before this happens again.

      Bad fuel
See it all the time in the race cars that sit.
We use an additive now to stop the issue.

Actually... I take the moron of the year award.

The problem started getting worse in that it wouldn't even idle high on start up.

Then I realized my main tank was empty after I milked it a few months ago for another car. (Didn't want to waste it)

Switched on the sub tank and off she went!

At least I admitted it hehe.

Ha! Not bad. Easy fix. I tried to get my generator started a few years ago after six or more months and it did similar things. Changed the fuel, nothing. Finally checked the air inlet carefully and two out of three air holes were filled with mud wasp nests.
