  • Changing Air Intake is this a problem?

I have looked under the bonnet of a 120 Series Petrol Prado at the C/Park we are staying at and couldn't believe what was done to fit a second battery. The Mechanic had simply removed the Air intake on the side of the Guard and just clipped the end of the round rubber intake to one of the Clips on the Air filter I should also point out that this is a woman travelling alone so I wonder if they have taken advantage of her.
Does this make the air intake less effective as the air is hotter? Can this lead to engine damage and will it effect the fuel economy ?

Yes and yes in my opinion. The cooler the air the better. Fuel economy I would say yes to an increase as it's not getting air scooped from outside while moving along even though tucked up above the plastic inner guard they still get Air Force fed upto the intake. Engine damage I would say no as you still have your air filter in place and possibly get less dust anyway ??..certainly not the normal way to fit a second battery to the V6 engine bay. .... Cheers Steve
