    Hello from Norway!

    I have a 1997 with a few mods that recently have developed a problem.

    First off, I have reasonably New Nozzels, front mounted intercooler, 3" exhaust exept for the dump pipe from the turbo that is still the original one. I also have a Tunit adjustable chip. Now 280000 kms and I run Royal Purple 5w-30 oil. And KC air filter.

    I should also mention that it has an ARB Sahara winch bumper with winch,OME 2" lift kit,Air lockers front and rear, Automatic transmission, 285/85-16 Cooper tires, steel rock sliders and underbody armour, so it has a few extra kilos to drag around.

    The engine mods make the other mods less noticeable, and it drives OK. Fuel economy is not great but I can't expect enything better, Things being as they are. I can sneak it under 10l/100 kms, but normal economic mixed driving leaves me at about 12-14l/100 kms. That is with the famous egg under the go-pedal.

    However, recently it has started to lack a bit of Power. I notice it most driving at highway speeds, when going up hills, most of them I can keep above 85 km/h, keeping transmission in over dive and Lock up engaged. Or could. Now I usually need to disengage overdrive and let lockup engage in 3rd. Even then it may struggle a bit. I'm now talking about trying to keep fuel consumption dom, if I floor it ofcourse it will move. With a decent amount of black smoke to go with it. It just seems to be more sluggish than it used to be, although it has never been a racer by any means.

    I also has developed a very noticeable leap in perfomance at about 2200 rpm. If accelerating normally, at maybe 1/3-1/4 throttle, and rev Counter hits the magig spot, it will jump to about 2500 rpm and you can hear turbo really waking up. I turned the Tunit chip back from setting 7 to setting 5, and it was less noticeable, but it is getting worse also at that setting.

    Any ideas on where to start looking? I thought I'd start with checking or blocking the EGR valve, and maybe see if the intake is clean or full of soot and gunk.

    Anyone else experienced the same sympthoms?
