  • Which awning...?

Wondering what awning people are running? Someone told me the Tigrerz11 mounting system isn't as good as some others but I haven't seen them in the flesh. Was thinking TJM, ARB or Black Widow. Anyone already been there and done the homework? Is there much difference in the way they set up, quality etc??
    cheers

Brenno there are a heap of threads about awnings of brands, shapes and sizes. Just go to the advanced search and let your fingers do the walking. Enjoy!!

The Tigerz brackets have been improved. I have 1 of their awnings and seems solid enough for the price.
2007 GXL V6 - ARB Bullbar with LED lights, snorkel, extractors, 2 1/4" dual exhaust, K&N filter, dimpled/slotted rotors, headrest dvd players, Ebay Satnav/reverse camera, GME 3100TX, Tigerz11 Side awning on custom brackets with Maxtrax mounts, 300W Invertor, ARB Underbody protection, Lightbar and STZ 265/70 tyres.

I'd go the arb over the tigerz11. Maybe a little more expensive but of course you get what you pay for. I have the arb and my brother bought a tigers11 and found the poles not as good, they don't seem to lock in position as solid as my awning(and I've been using mine for 6 years).

Ostrich Wing, yeah I did my homework, so much better than any other awning on the market by a long way IMO, but you probably don't want to pay the price for the best given you are looking at TigerZ, around $1500 BTW

              Cheers Andrew

I have a FoxWing that I'm very happy with and very easy to mount if you have Rhino racks.

the canvas is rugged compared to the foxwing wear it looks like the wind will tear it

I have Arb on my 80, mate has old powerful 4x4 and to be honest, we can't tell the difference between the quality. His appears just as good quality, only downfall of it, if you could call it one, is the pegs are crappy and he didnt even bother using them once. The Arb pegs aren't too much better, but are at least usable. Bluescrew sand pegs are the way to go in my oppinion to hold anything down, even the dog (well its chain anyway)

I've got a 2.5x2.5 Tigerz. No problems with the poles that people speak of as yet. I go a bit overkill and make sure everything is super taut whenever it gets put up so there is no room for movement anywhere, seems to work.

Two rivets sheered off on a rough track over the weekend. I'd read about it happening but just hadn't got around to replacing them with bolts.

Also the pivot joints for the horizontal side supports have worn a hole in the awning at one end, and would have done the same at the other had I not picked it up in time. I'll think back to year 8 Home Economics and sew in some tougher canvas patches and file the rough bits one day.

Due to it's price I'm not complaining, but there's definitely room for improvement which you'd think some of the more expensive companies have to have done given the prices they're asking.
