  • Fraser Island plannning

    We are looking at getting up there Sept/Oct this year, staying at Dilli Village. Is it reasonably doable to drive Dilli Village to Sandy Cape and return in one day?
    If not will look at camping up at Sandy cape over night, but staying in the cabins i was hoping not to have to take camping gear for one nighte stay (wife coming with me so its tent, stretchers etc)

    Definitely doable in one day.

    We drove from Central Station up to Sandy Cape Lighthouse and back again in a day.

    Left about 9am. Stopped at Eurong bakery for breakfast. Then headed up to Indian Heads, stopped and had a look at the Champagne Pools.

    Jumped back in the car and drove up to Sandy Cape.. Wasted about two hours with people getting bogged.... Than drove round to the lighthouse.

    Walked up to the lighthouse had looksy and then back to the car with a bite to eat (was just after lunchtime).. Will mention we had numerous kids with us (aged from 1 through to 8) so the walk was pretty slow..

    We headed back to Orchid beach where we stopped in for a beer, then back to the Champagne Pools so the kids can have a quick swim and some photos.. Then down to Eli Creek to bath the kids... Stopped somewhere there to help old mate pull his drowned Ford Ranger out of a creek, spent about 30 mins chatting with him, then towed him to his campsite...

    Then into Eurong for dinner at the restaurant and then back home to the campsite.. Was a biggish day, but honesty we did it with a 5 and 2 year old and they were fine. So if its just two of you, it will be pretty easy going. I would say we would have been home by about 8ish...

      As Bailey said, it's doable but a long day. We stay at Happy Valley and even then it's a long day. Last time we went a heaps of morons got stuck at South Nagala Rocks and we never made it to the end. So pissed.

        I was there in early this month and between champagne pools and waddy point was pretty chopped up at anything but low tide, same with inskip point end, if you were going to do it I would plan it so you were only doing the driving at super low tides or runout. that is if you dont want to drive in the dark.
