  • Engine Mount Clarification

    G`day

Ok so after doing some research on this forum I have found what im looking for but no clarification on the fault.

My 08 Prado suffers from what appears to be a common thing. While stationary and in D I sometimes get a violent vibration through the whole car but will go away if I shift into Neutral, now from what I can gather its the engine mounts.

My question is why is it worse when cold and its only intermittent.

Im a Heavy Duty Mechanic but havnt seen an engine mount set up like this on a Truck before HAHAHA

    Any clarification would help heaps.

    Cheers
    Jester

I'd say injectors if doing it more when cold not engine mounts or could be both... Cheers Steve

      Engine Mount Clarification

A good way to check is to stick it in low range, this is how Toyota determined that my mounts were stuffed. Apparantly in low range it puts a lot more stress on everything. When the tech did it to mine it felt as tho the car was going to vibrate to pieces. He said if it was injectors then it would be pretty similar vibrations in both high and low range.

I really haven't wrapped my head around these engine mounts, seem overly complicated to me, but that's also the way of the world now.

If your looking to buy a set and do the job yourself I just bought a set from here https://www.atocauto.com.au/proddeta...od=12361_30141 Toyota was $107 each.

Unfortunately I am the walking wounded at the moment so might be a couple of weeks before I am able to fit them up.

          Cheers Andrew

I'd put money on engine mounts.

            Common issue.

Mounts are cheap, prick to fit. Allow a good few hrs of pain.

I'm just putting up with mine

There is no chance I doing this fix myself, nor paying Mr T the 'estimated' $1000!! - It would be cheaper to move north for the winter as my issue only manifests itself or a couple months of the year anyway...

I've recently had an intermittent vibration at idle when cold. (d4d) Next set of lights/intersection vibration gone. Could this be mounts?

It could be holidaywagon, but it could also something else (worse)

When it next happens, quickly shift into neutral and see if the vibration stops. If it does there is your answer...

Thanks 120D4D. I haven't felt it for a couple of weeks now.
But I'm now due for 200 000k service.
Anyone know of a good d4d service bay between Brisbane and Sunshine Coast?

The dealers in that region suffer from sometimes good sometimes bad. You could always go a bit further south and hit up the Roo.

                            Engine Mount Clarification

They also somehow upset the no 4 injector pipe and caused a fuel leak (which they rectified by fitting a new pipe) was an expensive two trips for them. In their defense tho those pipes arnt torqued to a massive amount

Ok guys I got my new mounts today and will be fitting them soon.

BUT I did find this guide on how to test your Active engine mounts.

                              http://www.moranbahweather.com/toyot.../m_05_0658.pdf

this should also help clarify how these mounts actually work.

                              Cheers
