  • Transferring pics from USB to change the Welcome screen on GXL 2014

    G'day all,

I am new to this forum and have recently purchased my new Prado. I was reading through the manual for the "multimedia" system and it mentions that you can upload/transfer jpeg picture files to change the start up screen on this unit.

Problem is that I have tried this "as per the manual" and an error comes up saying that I have the wrong file type. I know that i don't and know that my file sizes are right.

Is this another "de-featured" item on the GXL? Can someone shed some light on this?

    Cheers

I'll be watching this thread with interest.

I haven't tried myself but this may save me the effort!

Transferring pics from USB to change the Welcome screen on GXL 2014

I have done it on mine. I don't know what the size was, but I know they have to be I a certain named folder. I have a picture when the screen is turned off and another on start up. I have only been able to do one picture for each. But the key is a USB with the right folder names in the main directory.
Oh mine is a GXL as we'll.

        Cheers r2d2,

I must admit I just dumped the pics onto an empty USB without putting them in a designated folder as such. I might try this and see how I go.

Thanks again, I'll keep you posted!

I must be doing something wrong or missing something here. I have them saved as jpeg and only the two pics I want are the only things on the USB.... I'm ripping my hair out lol

I was successful on my second attempt.
Was a while ago but I think issue for me was file size.

There two folder names that you have to use. It has nothing to do with what else is on the USB. I did the same to start with, put jpegs directly onto the usb and nothing. Read the manual again and hey presto put them into a specific folder name and bobs your aunt, I now have R2D2 as my start up screen.

YESSSSS, I just read the manual properly and have success!! I didn't realise that you have to actually generate two separate file folders 1 named "StartupImage" and 2 "DisplayOffImage"

The genius that I am.....NOT was in my haste skipped past this piece of information, pictures are now uploaded and ready to go......phew.

Yes, there is provision for that.

i did put my family picture as the startup and displayoff image too, but one thing i found annoying is, the "displayoff image" only comes up when you choose turn off screen, originally i thought it would show the picture when you turning off the engine, just like the start up image, shows up for a few seconds or some sort.

Found out in a hard way while I was driving at night, want to turn off the display because it was too bright, seconds later popped up the even brighter picture of my son...

                            Ha ha! Love it.

Good to know, as one of my (many...) pet hates is bright dash displays at night.

Mine dims at night with the lights in, check your settings, it's not bright when dimmed, In fact it's almost unreadable in day light when set to dim with the head light switch set to on.
