Auto 2002 TX Turbo Diesel. Just had the bad news a new head is required which is a major shock considering a new head was fitted by Toyota less than 8 months / 18,000kms ago. $4000 blown.
300,000 came up whilst on highway, so next day had new timing belt fitted. The mechanic doing the work noted that the existing belt was one notch out, which would explain the sudden increase in power after new one was fitted. A day later whilst on heading north the engine suddenly overheats and starts missing, lots of white smoke. Pulled over, got local diesel mechanic out who took taken head off and had it tested. Damaged and new one needed.
What is likely to cause it to happen so soon again? No one wants to give me a reason and how can I avoid it happening again (By a Ford!)
Should I insist on a non Toyota Head be fitted this time?
Do I have any claim against Toyota to cover costs of another head, being as they did not fit timing belt correctly and their original part (head) has not lasted longer than would be expected
Not a very good advert for Toyota Servicing and original parts.
