    So this is my understanding:

Gas Bottles can be carried on Camper, But must be Turned Off and not connected to anthing (Can't anyway)- No Problems there

Must show Date Stamp to Prove AS Standard and in date Stamp - Little Trickey to do!

Butane Bottles for Portable Camp Stoves - Must be Handed over and then collected on the otherside. - Question: Even New pack of 4 (unopened???)

Do they conduct searches of vehicles or just ask questions?

Whats to stop me from hiding 2 bottles deep in the vehicle, as they are only small?

I'm not saying I will, but getting a better understanding, thats all.

    Stuart
You are correct with the gas cylinder being turned off. Have never been asked to show the date stamping.

All butane cylinders have to be handed over if declared . Just don't get caught hiding them.

Yes a search is done of the vehicle along with questions. A check under the bonnet and inside any hatches on the camper. Once arrived at Devonport a quarantine check is carried out so will look in your fridge/freezer and asking about any fruit and vegetables you might have. DON'T bring any fruit or vegetables.

    • Geez, it's gone quiet on this thread. You guys saving yourselves for the GTG? Has anybody got any good references or touring type books that highlight Tasmania so we can get to all the other must-see spots after the GTG? Saw Pat Callinan's show the other day and that really wet the appetite.

      • There is a fair bit going on behind the scenes.

As far as tourism outside of the GTG - there's lots to do and see. Depending upon your time and budget.

Should also point out fuel is about $.10/litre more than the "big island".

        PM me if you want.

          • Anyone keen on doing some mountain biking before or after the GTG?
There's a lot of tracks that I want to check out over there.
            Can't we just keep travelling?

I like the idea of sharing spots to visit or even links to places so will start another thread so everyone can share their thoughts on what to do in Tasmanian either before or after the GTG.

                  • Lots of whisky distilleries down there too apparently, wonder if they do tours as well. Gives us something to fill in the gap between brewery tours

Excellent idea. Need to break up those beer tasting sessions with something different.

My brother lives about 400 metres up the road from the old Cascade brewery. We are doing a big trip together in Vic, NSW, SA, NT and Qld in March 2015 - haven't made my mind up yet about GTG - but tempted.
