  • TJM Gold Front Shockers Problem

    I had these fitted 10 months ago and have done 10,000km of which 30km were on dirt thru Barrington Tops. I noticed after trip to Brisbane from Adelaide that the front tyres were scolloped on outside and excessive wear. Found out the bushes had sagged and extruded. Checked on web and found this is caused by suspension issues. TJM said they will fit new ones but I am worried it will happen again and new tyres are not cheap.
    Has anyone heard of this problem

    Gibbo their was a crap bunch of rubber s I have had mine done but have been fine since, again only got 10k out of the rubber. All good now with new rubber.

    Hutch- Prado 150 with some TJM Kit.

      So are they coughing up for part worn tyres as well ?? Id be hitting them up Hutch, 10 thou screw that. I better check mine as well. So what part am I looking at to check ??..... Cheers Steve

        My tyres were fine, I doubt from what I have seen that the shock issues have anything to do with the tyre wear.
        Steve bottom rubber on the shock. If it is an issue it will be bulging.

          Constant 4wd's like the Prado are hard on their front tyres. The alignment needs to be spot on and the Toyota settings aren't ideal either.
          After you get the strut bushes changed go and see Greg at; Greg's alignment Solutions, Regency Park.

          He will sort out your alignment. Shameless plug I know, but he's old school knowledgeable and understands the in's and outs. Not like the kids working at most other tyre-chain stores.

                  I will request TJM to switch the current rubber so scolloped wear is on inside. Am heading up to Brisbane in August so hopefully the wear will be ok

                    Thanks OziOffroad, I realize that the whole weight of the prado is on the front bushes.
                    I googled up scolloping of tyres and the consensus is that this can only be caused by suspension, I had Pedders take a look and they said shocks ok but bushes shot (TJM did not think pedders was much chop and they had no other instances of bad rubber)
                    I will give Greg's Alignment a visit

                      I noticed my lower bushes were bulging and popping out so had them changed a while back. TJM in Brisbane didnt give warranty, cost of replacement bushes wasn't that much but labour is a bit cause the front strut has to come out to get to the bush. They seem to be OK now after 6-12 months, but if it happens again I will upgrade to some poly ones. Haven't found any specific aftermarket poly ones for the 150, hoping some older ones will fit if it happens.
